Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 02, 2013 6:52 pm Hi, we have started our first owner builder project. We are building a two storey house on stumps and are wondering what peoples experiences are with Gas Ducted heating with the ducts in the floor or ceiling. Obviously heat rises so logic says the floor is the best place, however I have read conflicting views that say modern heaters are made to blow from above, and the central ducts in the ceiling distribute heat better than a duct against the wall. Any thoughts and experiences on this would be greatly appreciated. Re: Ceiling v floor ducts, which heats most efficiently? 2Apr 04, 2013 8:20 pm We would certainly say you get better heating from floor vents. Ceiling ones will give you hot heads and cold feet. The heaters today don't produce much air by volume so are not really that effective at pushing the air down. What is meant to happen is the air actually gets pulled down by drawing air from the vents down and to the return that should be low down in the wall. Though do agree that in floor is much better because most systems don't do this properly anyway, so by having in the floor the heat at least passes where the people are. Re: Ceiling v floor ducts, which heats most efficiently? 4Apr 05, 2013 7:34 pm Slightly irrelevant but I love floor vents..... As a kid I would lay on the floor with a blanket whilst watching TV and I'd lay the blanket over the vent. It would puff the blanket up with warm air and I'd be toasty and warm under the blanket. My mum used to yell at me for it. Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61873 Blog http://www.buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com.au Thank you. That is really helpful.
