I would be grateful for any comments/advice from people who have had such a fire installed recently. Bear in mind that I live in Canberra (very cold long winter compared to other parts of Australia) and have to heat an open-plan living area of about 60 square metres (which allows for absence of double glazing and for raked ceiling with no insulation). The only feasible alternative to a gas log fire would seem to be the 10 kw Daikin FVXS71LMA split system for heating and cooling. It seems a strong model suitable for our -5 nights but lacks the ambience of"flames".
