Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 05, 2013 3:30 pm Hi Guys .. Recently been visiting some display homes at Kellyville and have noticed that quite a few display homes have the new linear grilles for diffusion on their ducted a/c units. I wanted to know if anyone has experience with them being efficient as those round diffusers are? .. Seems to me the air flow would be quite directional .. Also most of these linear bar like grilles were always in a corner .. not in the center like usual round ones are .. so there is some logic behind that .. that i dont get .. I must say they look sleep though .. I'm getting quotes for ducted a/c and choosing the diffuser type is making a difference in $$ .. hmmmmmmmm? --- I don't have a signature - just this sentence saying that I don't have one - that'll do! Re: Ducted A/C - Diffuser Grille - Round/Linear .. any good? 2Mar 05, 2013 4:11 pm Round ones are rubbish. Installers like them because they are easy and quick as you don't have to line anything up properly. But the air dispersion on heating is awful. Most go for square MDO's these days. A few do linear grilles in the ceilings but not many; they are usually used in the walls or bulkheads when the AC has been put in during construction with a multi fancoil solution. Re: Ducted A/C - Diffuser Grille - Round/Linear .. any good? 3Mar 06, 2013 9:16 am Thanks .. True. The air dispersion from the round ones is terrible .. in my house it usually goes the opposite way to the duct that is tilted above it .. so not like its coming from all around ... specially in the ground floor .. i had to change it to one of those square directional grilles to push it in a direction .. I'll be looking at linear grilles and square ones with interest .. not much of a difference in cost i suppose? a couple of hundred $ or more? --- I don't have a signature - just this sentence saying that I don't have one - that'll do! Plastic ones just look awful and everyone can tell they are plastic a mile off. Aluminium ones can show off the skills (or otherwise!) of your plasterer... Because they are machine cut they will be perfectly straight and any imperfections can become glaringly obvious. The plastic ones tend to bend a little and hide small peaks and troughs in a way the ally ones never will. Linears need cushion boxes, etc as well so they are a fair bit more than standard MDO's or Roundy's. Re: Ducted A/C - Diffuser Grille - Round/Linear .. any good? 5Mar 06, 2013 9:47 am I see what you mean with plastic .. they also tend to go yellow-ish over time .. the diffusers i have in my house are excellent color wise, not fade at all yet .. Hmmm .. okay so this extra super-duper cost might put me off .. as it is the air-con will cost a bunch and i gotta be on budget with everything .. I saw some 3-way diffusers and 2-way diffusers on the net .. they look neat .. but like you said, aligning them would be a job .. --- I don't have a signature - just this sentence saying that I don't have one - that'll do!
