Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 05, 2012 9:43 am morning! looked around last night at possibly getting an outdoor patio misting system like the ones here http://www.mistingsystemsmelbourne.com.au/ - has anyone got one - are they effective? Do they really keep flies and other flying pests away while it's on? That would be great if it did... I don't want a low pressure DIY one - im looking more at high pressure as they don't leave you wet i believe... would love to hear anyones experience with that type of outdoor cooling... des Re: patio misting / outdoor cooling 2Oct 07, 2012 2:27 pm Just followed your links and ended up at the manufacturers web-site. A full DIY high-pressure system is around $US3,000, so by the time you add freight (say $500) $US3,500 convert to Aussie-dollars (using the typical importers conversion rates) that works out at around $AU4,500, add GST (and round up) that'll be $AU5,000, add the "local-markup" factor, (say 20%) I'd be surprised if you got change out of $6000-$7,000 for a decent size 30-nozzle system............... A small domestic system should cost around $2,500.00 Thanks for that, Looks interesting. What sort of area would you consider "small" ? Also I noticed your site talks about injecting a pest repellent into the fog, how does his work, does the system normally draw water from a tank, or is the insecticide somehow injected into the water feed line ? Thanks, P_D . Can you get Misting Fans that connect straight to a water source etc? Looked on a few websites to try and get a better understanding of it all. Couldn't really tell. Can you get Misting Fans that connect straight to a water source etc? Looked on a few websites to try and get a better understanding of it all. Couldn't really tell. As far as I can understand, there are (basically) two types........... 1) Low pressure, These you'd buy from Bunnings and connect to your backyard tap. Advantages, Very cheap and easy. Disadvantages, The water comes out as (very small) drops, which gets you, your patio and everything else around wet. 2) High pressure, From a specialist in these systems, the water is pressurised by a pump (1,000 psi or more) and get "blasted" out of super-fine nozzles becoming like a cloud (not the iOS6 cloud, the water-vapour in the sky cloud ). Advantages, As the water is a fog or cloud it evaporates instantly giving enhanced cooling and doesn't make everything wet. Disadvantages, As the Woolies advertisement says...."Ker-Ching" !!! Also the complexity of the pump and other associated gear. IMHO, And this is only me speaking from my bum, I think the Bunnings one would make you cool enough, simply based on the fact they have so much water around the place, but I'm not sure that I want my alfresco really wet, but I'm also not sure that I want to spend that sort of $$'s for a high-pressure system either ?? Plus it keeps away the flies etc which would almost be worth it alone will have to get a quote next i think dc Re: patio misting / outdoor cooling 7Oct 15, 2012 4:35 pm Well that's strange !! It looks like the guy who posted here before has deleted / had deleted for him, his posts !! Anyone keep a copy of his web address ?? Cheers, P_D EDIT...Found it, I think !! (Love Firefox history ) I think this was the guy who said about $2,500 for an "average" home patio............ http://www.mistafog.com.au/outdoor-cooling/ . You'd be strolling along - bloody hot - and suddenly this almost rain type mist - quite cool - would hit you out of no-where. AND - outside on the footpath I mean. Typical of our American friends I guess Re: patio misting / outdoor cooling 10Nov 08, 2012 8:54 am yeah it's very popular in the US and in parts of asia too. Just waiting to install it now - looking forward to a hot weekend once its in - no flies and being cool - sweet Re: patio misting / outdoor cooling 12Dec 02, 2012 7:15 am I've just started noticing those misting fans in outdoor restaurants. On a street they don't seem wonderful - but on a deck or patio - with some walls they may be good. The Vegas ones I mentioned seemed to do a better job - but they were a huge system - not just a fan with water. Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16156 Firstly the ableflex that has been installed needs (manufactures specification) a sealant cap over the top, preventing water draining down between the slab and the… 3 7791 If your patio is going to be 35 sqm then that's going to need Council Approval.
