Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 12, 2012 10:25 pm Hi all, We have a rental property that needs to have its ducted gas heater replaced. It is an outdoor unit that currently feeds 11 vents. We plan to extend the property and move in within a few years and was hoping to select a new heater that we can re-use once the extensions are done and might end up with something like 15 vents. My main query is the older 3* units compared to the newer 4,5,6* units that are more efficient. Although I am drawn to the potential savings from a high efficiency heater and the benefits of networking/zoning etc, I heard that the units have more complex electronics that can be expensive to repair. Two different heating service guys have mentioned the same thing to me that if it was them and their own house, they would be sticking to something like a Braemar 3.7* unit which would be more reliable and only really have 3 main parts that could go wrong and not that expensive to repair replace (except if the heat exchanger cracks, you throw away the unit I was told) Any thoughts or experiences with this? I see generally the warranty with the electronics is only covered for 3 years, and it is only the burner and heat exchangers that are covered for 10 (braemar). Last thing I want is to fork out 2.5K for a new unit and then have the controller board die 5 years later costing 1K to replace...that would be bad....
