Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 21, 2013 9:22 am Hiya, I was wondering what the different types of insulation are and what would be most suitable material-wise and budget-wise for my situation? My house is a mid-nineties build, brick-veneer single-story villa. I've not been in the roof myself but I've been told by a neighbour that he has no sarking (?) in his unit, and the pest inspection guy said there is only minimal insulation in mine - just the back bedroom, I believe. Re: Retrofitting insulation 2Feb 21, 2013 10:43 am The best insulation you could install in your villa would be R 3.5 or higher ceiling batts which will keep your place a lot cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Relatively easy to install and the most cost effective. You could install anticon or normal sarking under your roof tiles which will certainly help but you have to remove your roof tiles , install the sarking then re-tile the roof to do that making it relatively expensive to do. Stewie Re: Retrofitting insulation 3Feb 21, 2013 1:31 pm Thanks for that, Stewie. Batts definitely sound the way to go if nothing needs to be done on the roof. Hopefully that is the case (see new my new thead) viewtopic.php?f=18&t=63109 Re: Retrofitting insulation 4Feb 22, 2013 5:41 am Agree with Stewie. A cheaper alternative is to pump fibre insulation into the ceiling. Enviroflex do it at a good price. cheers Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11358 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6302 |
