Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 03, 2012 12:53 pm I have a airwell split system 8kw it seem i will have to foot the repair costs myself as the company when into receivership.I had a 5 year warranty the system is about 3.5 years old.the problem is this it will not operate on heating mode at night time or early morning when it is the coldest,it works on cooling dry etc.But the funny thing is that it will operate at about 8am in the morning and works fine any ideas what it could be and the costs thanks finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: problemss with air conditioner 3Aug 06, 2012 11:02 am yes maybe but works ok once it has started to warm up outside.Just a pain having to foot the repair bill myself when it had a 5 year warranty will have to try and get someone out to have look saying that it is hard to get anyone out here to do anything can be a bit of a losing battle sometimes finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: problemss with air conditioner 4Aug 06, 2012 2:30 pm Once it warms up it is easier for it to work hence the reason why I suggested refridgerant line problems. Even if the unit had warrenty if this was in fact true then its an installation problem. To work out how good my aircond system was I run it and after ten minutes measured both the refridgerant pipes. The thin one should be about 37-40 degrees and the thick one should be about 5 degrees. I am guessing in reverse mode the pipes should record opposite but I am not 100%. Maybe need to do some reading on this. If the values are out then it can indicate a problem. Keep in mind that it is comman for reverse cycle heater to not work that good in melbourne when it is very cold outside. Usually even the good ones dont work when it is colder than say 5 degrees outside. So it seems like there are a few things to checkk out. Personaly I would do some basic checks and If i suspect anything wrong then get the experts in like you say. Re: problemss with air conditioner 7Aug 08, 2012 5:31 pm Most units won't work when it's really cold! Depending on how cold the defrost may be kicking in just on ambient temperature, or it may start heating and very shortly after go into defrost! The problem basically is they are heat pumps so they take the heat from outside and bring it inside, which means the coil outside must be colder than ambient! In heating this results in the coils being covered in ice, the defrost cycle basically shuts down the fan and switches back to cooling, or bypass hot gas to the coil (instead of inside!) As a very ruff guide in cooling mode the large pipe should condensate like a can from the fridge, if it forms ice there is typically a problem! Usually a shortage of refrigerant indicating a likely leak. 2 Re: problemss with air conditioner 8Aug 09, 2012 5:48 am it has worked for the past three plus years ans worked up until about a week ago now.my another two air cond have no problems working finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: problemss with air conditioner 10Aug 14, 2012 11:44 am seems when the retailer sold me this unit the company was already in recivership. After dicuss with the retailer they have said it is the pipes frezzzing and would not be covered under warranty anyway what does everyone think. finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: problemss with air conditioner 11Aug 14, 2012 1:05 pm The only warranty you may have would be with the installer! If its an installation fault then it is up to them to fix it anyway, but most installation warranty's are around the 12 month mark anyway! Your options are really to get someone to come look at it and pay full price, or by another unit and replace the unit, you should be able to have a tech come out and give you a price on a repair for around $200, been awhile since I've had a service call though 2 Re: problemss with air conditioner 12Aug 15, 2012 6:22 pm Icing up of the condenser can happen when temps get below 7'C, but there is a defrost cycle that should kick in to remove any ice. Premature icing up can happen for a number of reasons one of which is that the system is short of refrigerant. You need an AC Tech to have a look at it to determine the cause. Its futile if you don't do this. This thread will go around in circles for ever more. Re: problemss with air conditioner 13Aug 17, 2012 10:33 am the air con bloke came out nothing to do with temp being to cold as he said should still work in temps cooler than we have here.He did some diagnoised on the air cond unit and it is a sensor problem the sensor is senses the room at 30 all the time the reason why i can then turn around and use cooling. So the sensor and board have to replaced were are waiting for parts the retailer is paying the bill but the part is only $80 so all good finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: problemss with air conditioner 14Aug 17, 2012 10:34 am and the unit is a sanyo in a airwell cover is seem that year it won the choice award for top air con a good unit finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: problemss with air conditioner 15Aug 22, 2012 8:03 am sorry why would I do that not a installation mistake. As I said the sensor that senses the temp has died the air con unit did the diagnosied itself.it is a invernter system and the retailer is paying the bill to fix it anyway. And the company that came out was our own guy anyway not one the retailer send finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: problemss with air conditioner 16Nov 24, 2012 11:19 pm well after waiting all this time for a part hn send there air tech down to look at the unit well they sao he was coming to look at replacing the unit but anyways they claim it is rodent damage,so it seems we will have to fix the repair bill of over $700.even thought we have had to air cond guys out that say no not rodent damage at all.only our word against theres I guess.unit still working just cuts out after about 10 minsand does not go back on and ideas. finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 Re: problemss with air conditioner 19Nov 29, 2012 8:51 am Fridgy B STAR what does the rodent damage look like?? Re: problemss with air conditioner 20Dec 01, 2012 4:53 pm no chew wires etc just the fact that there was some rodent dropping etc that it is from what I understand from Hn.But we turned the unit on two day and it run for a good hour then stopped and then we turned it back on and when again so any ideas would be good finished building 40 square home on 5 acres with perry homes.working on the landscaping just finished pool deck with ://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2217 How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents?
