Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 25, 2012 2:24 pm Hi everyone, we have a dwarf wall which separates the living/dining rom from the bedrooms/hallway.. We are thinking about putting a nice long gas fireplace into the dwarf wall, we have a gas connection there. Has nyone done something similar, what would the rough costs be? I have attached an image of the dwarf wall... You could install a unit if you are willing to run an exposed flue in the section between the top of the dwaf wall and the cealing? Re: adding a gas fireplace to dwarf wall... 3Jul 09, 2012 10:31 pm Depends what your looking for, this is a double sided gas log fire fire a touch over $6,000 (not recommending, just first thing I found on Google!) http://www.pivotstove.com.au/catalogue/ ... s-log-fire Interestingly the photo shows no flu? The 9 inch flu book shows a horizontal flu, assuming you can flu through the wall to the side then straight up above the roof line! Your best bet maybe to get some quotes/advice from some fire places, of course if your willing to spend more you could alter the wall to install the flu inside, means framing, plastering and painting though! 2 Re: adding a gas fireplace to dwarf wall... 4Jul 09, 2012 10:39 pm Yep, the Lopi ST is the same as the Heat & Glo ST, the flue comes off on a 45o on the corner in which you can point a 45o elbow to either go horizontally through a wall or vertically. Both units are balance flue so if needed you could run horizontally, than turn 90o and run vertically through a roof. Only issue I can see here is the height of the dwarf wall as the two above mentioned units are around 1m in height plus clearance to non combustibles. (normally around 75 - 100mm) Re: adding a gas fireplace to dwarf wall... 5Sep 04, 2012 7:19 pm Old thread is old ... so I doubt anyone cares about my comments ... but just the fireplace to look like that is going to be $7k or more, so I'd be surprised if it were possible to do for less than ~$10k. I went off the idea when I was told they were for appearances rather than heating (even though they do look excellent). Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13724 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11577 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 3329 |
