Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 27, 2012 10:12 pm Hi All, We are considering getting ducted air con/ heating put into the house we have just purchased. It currently has no heating and is freezing I have had 3 different guys out for quotes, 1 pushes Fujitsu, 1 Mitsubishi and the other Daikin units. I am thinking of going with the Fujitsu only because of price and cash back offer they have at the moment but have heard the outside units are noisy. The model I am looking at is the ART45L or the Mitsubishi PEA-RP100EA2. Can anyone help me decide? Also they have all said conflicting things about the vents 2 say the round vents are best, don't collect dust and less problems and the square ones go yellow and collect dust and the other said he doesn't like to put round in although they are easier to fit as they go yellow and vibrate over time.. Can anyone help clear these things up for me and recommend the best unit to go with, It's an expensive decision so any advice will be helpful. Cheers Re: Ducted Aircon 2Apr 28, 2012 10:57 am I don't know how much my opinion will weigh in, but I asked your queries of my brother in law, who is a long time sparkie & fridgie mechanic. He said that round versus square vents is the installer's benefit, as they may get a discount on only square or only circle and then want to only provide them, hence they push one or the other at the client. My BIL has square in his home as he said it provides a little more air flow than the circle (going by area size of the vent), but it's up to you and what you like the look of. If dust collects in it a bit, well, that's what you want - ducted reverse cycle sucks up the dust in the air and it can collect a little in the vent but it's better than circulating through the house! Vents need a dust every now and then like everything else. If you've ever cleaned a pedestal fan or dusted the edge of a ceiling fan, you'll know what I mean... He suggests Daikan is the better brand in his opinion but, once again, up to you and if you think the special offer deal is too good to pass up, why not! Any vents that rattle is due to poor installation and nothing to do with becoming loose over time. All above discussion is courtesy of my brother in law Good luck! -Ally Re: Ducted Aircon 3Apr 28, 2012 12:16 pm We have round vents and in some rooms I regularly open and close them. We have had it now for around 8 years or so and we don't get a rattle sound. We don't collect much dust on these vents, but the air intake vent needs regular cleaning. Re: Ducted Aircon 4Apr 28, 2012 2:57 pm Thanks for your replies, very helpful and makes sense why the installers have a preference Daikin definitely appears to be the better unit unfortunately it is around $4000 more when compared to the Fujitsu cash back. Can anyone help out with the noise of the fujitsu. We have to place the outside unit close to neighbours house and worried if it is really noisy may impact on them when they are outside as well as if we are also outside on the balcony. Is it uncomfortably loud or just a low murmur? Thanks Re: Ducted Aircon 5Apr 28, 2012 3:05 pm Outside units will make noise no matter what. I would tend to putting it on a side/back of the house where it is the furthest away from a) neighbours and b) your main living areas. I wouldn't compare it to a rocket engine. It would be about 50-55dB, so I would compare it to a typewriter, loud conversation, suburban traffic, etc. Re: Ducted Aircon 6Apr 28, 2012 3:30 pm Just braved the cold wind to go check out what brand ours is. It's a Brivis. Not one you have had a quote for, but I thought maybe it might be one you consider. It is located at our bedhead (but outside obviously) and only has a low hum. Not intrusive at all - and yes we do run it on those horrible hot nights and I have never had a problem sleeping through it. Re: Ducted Aircon 7Apr 28, 2012 3:50 pm Hey, not sure that it will help much, but we have a Daikin split system and a Mitsubishi and the Mitsubishi gives a LOT better airflow, hence why we have decided to go Mitsubishi ducted in the new place. The rough in has been done and we are having round vents in all rooms except the master which will have a large square one due to a bigger area to cover. Unfortunately I can't help much with the noise, both the Daikin and Mitsu split systems seem to make the same amount of noise if anything the Daikin more, but that is likely due to its location. It wont be until early August that I can give you an idea on how the Mitsu ducted goes My building blog is here: http://metriconcedar32.blogspot.com.au Re: Ducted Aircon 8Apr 28, 2012 10:02 pm Our aircon guy said he only installs LG (our unit), daikin, fujitsu and mitsubishi. He said they did do other brands, but found them all...less then desirable, so only sticks with these ones now. He then said that they were all really good, would recommend anyone of them to anyone, and ours in particular is very very quiet, but all these brands are good on the noise factor. So to me it sounds like they are all good choices! As for round or square vents...had never heard of round ones! that is new to me! Ducted Aircon 9Apr 28, 2012 10:55 pm We had Fujitsu splits in our old house, fantastic units and in 5 years never missed a beat. The outside unit was a little noisy but not a big deal. We have a daiken ducted r/c in the new house which is a super inverter and the outside unit is really quiet, standing next to it and you can hardly hear it. Its a bit smaller unit than yours. Its not noisy at all. The outside unit is under the back verandah where the sound is not trapped and exaggerated as it would be between say building and close fence. It hasn't missed a beat, but can get expensive if run continuously, which I can now offset with my solar system. Like the others I think the outlet shape matters little. Would I buy another? Yes. Ive had both evaporative and R/C and would choose R/C any day Arfur The unit normally clips into a metal plate screwed to the wall, either plate is not flush, or unit not hooked in and could be hanging from the pipes partly, either might… 2 15800 retail its around double the price of a similar sized actron/dakin system from memory, They are excellent systems though.
