It is kinda a holden V ford thing. There will be some people swearing by braemar. 15 years, i've used both - we closed our account with braemar and wont sell them - when something goes wrong it is so difficult to get it repaired - they like to blame everyone else - electricians, plumbers, duct fixers - but eventually they come out and fix the heater - intresting - if it was gas, duct or electricity - their technicians couldn't/shouldn't fix it. Either way they turn up, blame everyone else and leave with the heater working. This is one of those topics that will rage for decades i think. At the end of the day every house i've lived in i have installed brivis - thats gotta count for something Oh just on the original post - would you agree/disagree that the braemar works better from the ceiling than brivis - and why? (just for arguments sake cheers Dynamic Heating & Cooling - http://www.DIYheating.com.au DIY Ducted Heating & Cooling Systems DIRECT to the public Re: Ducted Heating Advice for Canberra - Braemar or Brivis? 6Sep 28, 2008 9:14 pm What a load of bull **** Brivis service back up for the last couple of years has been shot house people with brivis heaters under warranty have been waiting upto 2 months for someone from brivis to come out to repair their heaters or coolers plus brivis have'nt done a thing with their heaters for years braemar have the best units on the market and great back up service i to have been installing braemar and brivis for the last 15 years and yes bout 8 years ago you would'nt touch a braemar but now they are the best unit on the market and lots of companys out there cant get a braemar dealership .
By the way braemar have the best option for zoning you can have upto 4 different zones with their own thermostat controlled at all different tempartures which thats something you cant do with a brivis heater Re: Ducted Heating Advice for Canberra - Braemar or Brivis? 8Sep 29, 2008 12:58 pm i love it when someone asks your opinion then swears at you. oh the joys of forums.
With brivis if you service your heater every year they will fix a breakdown within a week. If you haven't had it serviced for 5 years - then you wait in line - fair enough i think. Braemar takes the same attitude (unless its changed in the last 24 months) Correct me if i'm wrong but braemar dont even have their OWN service department - its been contracted out to idiot companies for as long as I can remember. How often does a fellow come out and can't actually fix the problem or doesn't have 'the part'. Braemar have made some leaps forward in the R&D side, but still they have only been making decent heaters for 8 years compared to brivis 30+ years. Brivis have always made a good heater - braemar haven't - how long till they revert back is always a concern? Cheers Dynamic Heating & Cooling - http://www.DIYheating.com.au DIY Ducted Heating & Cooling Systems DIRECT to the public Re: Ducted Heating Advice for Canberra - Braemar or Brivis? 9Sep 29, 2008 3:00 pm Being just on the egde of signing up for a new heater, I have struggled to find out the technical details of both. All of my knowledge obtained thus far is by talking to various techs knowing varying amounts of product data. No one will supply documentation for me to read myself, which I think is disgusting. So if the info below is not correct (a) it wouldn't surprise me and (b) please set the story straight.
But as I understand it..... Brivis will do multizone (at only the one temperature in each zone) by shutting off a damper to a zone if necessary and then compensating *real-time* for the difference in system pressure by lowewing fan speed and burner strength. Braemar measures the back pressure only when the fan starts up and chooses a fan speed at this time. So all the zoning will work from the controller at pre-programmed times and if you choose to deviate from thew program, then you have to change the fan speed manually. But the system *will* allow different temps in different zones. To me this sounds like Braemar is a step behind Brivis - why should you ever have to set a fan speed in this day and age when sensors can talk to burners? I couldn't beleive it when I read the Braemar user manual and got to the part where it said program the TIME, TEMPERATURE, *FAN SPEED* ! .. and yes markDHC, don't you know that in forums you have to defend your opinion to the death - you couldn't just discuss issues politely in an attempt to tease out the facts ; it's just not the way of the internet Re: Ducted Heating Advice for Canberra - Braemar or Brivis? 10Sep 29, 2008 3:14 pm the below info is correct!
Brivis units will lower fan speed and burner strength when you close a zone, even if you close off one outlet manually - which is fantastic.. then you can start doing, what i term as 'manual zoning'. Closing off a bedroom here, study there etc and saving on running costs - i suppose the only downside is you have to go do it manually - but it gives you the ultimate in zoning control From what I understand of Braemar that too is correct - you have to manually adjust the fan speed - not the best idea in the world. Hopefully this makes the decision making a little easier, you won't be disappointed with a brivis... all the best H_C Dynamic Heating & Cooling - http://www.DIYheating.com.au DIY Ducted Heating & Cooling Systems DIRECT to the public Brivis or Braemar 11Sep 29, 2008 5:37 pm Whichever unit you choose remember the big picture: if your home is designed and built well enough you will hardly have top use it anyway! And you dont change fan spped for braemar heaters it should be set up by installer at installation if installed correctly When you change zones fan and burner strength will alter to what has been set up by installer. Plus a braemar will cut down to 25% capacity lowest a brivis will go is 40% big picture 13Oct 01, 2008 11:12 am Thats why i said big picture.
Dont waste any money on ducted heating. Just get a couple of panel heaters and build your house properly. Why not do what I used to do in America when I needed my zones changed? I shut the bloody vents in those rooms!:) No silly programmers, controllers, or "burner strength adjusters" needed;):) With Brivis (Or Braemar for that matter) is it true that you can only add their own refrigeration units to their systems? In other words if you want cool air too, you can't add, say a Carrier cooling unit? Greg Re: Ducted Heating Advice for Canberra - Braemar or Brivis? 15Oct 03, 2008 6:00 pm Well,
For starters, shutting vents causes more air to come out in different spots, so shutting vents in rooms may not achieve what the user wants. If you live in (for only one example) a double story house and the upstairs part reaches a temperature before the downstairs part, shutting all the vents may cause wind noise in the other vents in the house and/or put the heater unit's fan under strain. This is why they use all the "silly programmers, controllers, or "burner strength adjusters". Also not to mention the fuel consumption that the "silly ...."burner strength adjusters" could potentially save. So, did you use a lot of oil in America? As I understand it, you can add refrigerated cooling into the system but not evap cooling . I don't know why. Anybody, does Brivis pump the refrigerated air through the heating unit? ie Is it a physical add on? Maybe they don't want to do this with the moist air from an evap cooler for corrosion reasons. HC Re: Ducted Heating Advice for Canberra - Braemar or Brivis? 16Oct 03, 2008 7:33 pm heat_crime Well, For starters, shutting vents causes more air to come out in different spots, so shutting vents in rooms may not achieve what the user wants. Still lasted a long time though. heat_crime Also not to mention the fuel consumption that the "silly ...."burner strength adjusters" could potentially save. So, did you use a lot of oil in America? I didn't use any oil. I was talking about natural gas. Yes, we use a lot of it, it's cheap as chips and in abundant supply. I can see where you might want to conserve oil or LPG, or anything really if costly or in short supply. I have my doubts about how much over the life of a systems usage you might save in natural gas. But, It could be worth it. Never seen any data though on savings vs cost of hardware/electronics. I know, I know us Americans are a bunch of wasters. But who's wasting what with all the fancy electronics?
