Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 15, 2012 12:04 pm Hello, In the past days our brivis gas ducted heater has had some issues, we had it looked and it is decided it needed to be replaced we are looking at our options now. My question is, can the unit be replaced by some kind of electric heater, using the same ducts, ext? Because we now have solar panel we have plenty of power to run an electric heater. Thanks for your kind help Gas/Electric ducted heating 2Apr 15, 2012 9:01 pm Hi The most efficient form of electric heating is reverse cycle air conditioning. You would need to get an installer to look at your requirements and design a system for you - it is unlikely that they would reuse the ducting, but that is a pretty small proportion of the cost. Depending on whether you also need cooling in the summer months, a replacement gas system may be more efficient. I do find your attitude to having solar panels is a little short-sighted, however. Yes, on a hot sunny day you are putting power into the grid, but on a cold winters night when you need your heating (and everyone else needs to run their heater) that power has to come from the base-load generators (mostly coal and in peak-demand periods gas turbine), so of you want to reduce your greenhouse emissions then you need to combine your panels with also adopting energy efficient practices.
