Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 05, 2012 3:25 pm Firstly thank you taking the time to read this post and hope you can help out We are looking at getting ducted air conditioning and after calling up a few installers we have narrowed down to the following brands; Daikin, Actron and Panasonic. I hear Actron is really good performance wise but is a loud system. On the contrary, I hear that even though it is loud, it is as loud as the other two mentioned above. Some of you may be installers, some of you may have the units above installed in your houses and some of you may have researched more than I can about these. Could you please help with reviews about the above system and any other information that you think may help me decide on which one to install. I like the fact that Actron is Australian manufactured and is quite a good system but the fact that it has a noisy outdoor unit and the company being fairly new & small are holding me back. Any information is good information Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 2Mar 05, 2012 5:28 pm Hi Johnny_Franklin As you will see from my previous posts, I am a fan of Actron Air. Super performance, super reliability and high energy efficiency, Aussie made. They have been manufacturing for 26 or 27 years in Australia. We have been installing Actron Air for 9 years now so know them quite well. With regard to outdoor unit noise? Actron Air are very quiet, mind you if you install them in the wrong place you could have a problem as you would with any brand. The fact is there is no unit that is silent! You have to expect something from an air conditioning unit. The larger the unit the more noise it will make. We have recently been called to inspect 2 Daikins (separate properties) for being noisy. To be fair it's not the units fault, its where they were placed. Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 3Mar 05, 2012 5:40 pm Thanks Fridgy... I will PM you for some more information. Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have it 4Mar 05, 2012 8:49 pm We have Actron in our new home and LOVE it. The outdoor unit is not loud at all ... alot quieter than the outdoor unit on our Panasonic split in our old place. Indoor ... well you don't hear it at all ... even if I've only got one zone on. Very efficient system, I can feel a difference in our house within 10 mins of putting it on in a hot house (running all zones bar minor bedrooms). The bit I love the most ... the electricity bill wasn't huge! We had it running alot in summer and our bill was less than our old place with the split systems which I ran only sparingly. ETA: we're in a regional area and had to pay a few thousand more for the Actron over the Daiken, worth every $$. Another bonus is the size of the outdoor unit ... it's tiny, not this huge monster of a system which dominates the space. --------------------- Sent from my mobile device so please excuse my typing missed cakes. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 5Mar 05, 2012 9:06 pm cheers for the info ESB Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 6Mar 10, 2012 8:07 am Things change, so take my experience with a grain of NaCl. When we looked at ducted system, we went out to one of the Homeworld places, and listened to both the indoor and outdoor unit in action (this was summer). At the time, the Daikin unit was the most silent, and based on spec, was also most efficient. Even after 5 years, the outdoor unit is sill quiet enough that we can be in the room next to the unit (which ismtombe the new master bedroom), and not be bothered by it (we are in a very quiet area next to a reserve). What sold us as well was we asked the people quoting, most who have been in the business for many years, which A/C they have at home, and most said Daikin, even those who didn't sell Daikin. Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 7Mar 10, 2012 11:16 am We have just ordered our Actron system for our new house. The 23kw size. The main reason we chose them is rarely a bad word is said about the actual product, and we believed is a better unit than the Daikin with more variables. I believe Daikin are coming out with a new model very similar to the Actron in the near future. Actron however does have one downfall. It is a much pricier unit than the Daikin and I believe this along with better marketing, Actron's is shocking by the way - would be why more Daikin's are sold. This is a GenIII 7 Zones/13 outlets. For the money, which was alot more, we hope it will be as good as it claims. We have 3 friends that have installed the same sytem wih Intelligent Life3 and they have no problems or compaints about it, have recommended and confirmed what we felt were the benefits. There were massive Daikin ones in two of the display homes and a smaller one in another. One house also has breeze air. Now for the findings - remember it was a 41 to 42 degree day in Perth today: None of the units were that audible indoors (especially if you were a room away) they were all pretty quiet. Outdoor units - the Daikin was a little louder than the Actron. The models I have looked at are RQ200KY1-Daikin and SRA230C Actron. I think I have made up my mind and will try my luck with Actron. So this weeks assignment will be to look for Actron Platinum Dealers and get quotes. See what the say I need for a 290sqm indoor hse. Hopefully there fairly priced. Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 12Mar 12, 2012 7:59 pm Let us know how you go, I was told only one place in Perth installs Actrons which was a bit surprising, haven't looked into it as much yet though. Definitely sold on the product itself though! Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 13Mar 20, 2012 9:13 pm Well we have decided to use an Actron system in our new build. Have been shopping around for a reputable supplier/installer. After contacting Actron we were given one name. Seems they are as rare as hens teeth. A quote was obtained and all looks good. Whilst in Melbourne last week saw an add for and Actron dealer a similar distance from us. after contacting them they said basically too far but told us there was a dealer half the distance away. Obviously this was a bit hard for Actron themselves to work out. Well finally got a quote from them. Glad I was sitting down. 20% dearer in price, with 3 less points. Even rang to check there was no mistake. Their reasoning, that the other dealer must have a better buying price. 20% better!! These people are meant to be the "local" service agents for my area. Hope I don't need service after the warranty runs out at the prices they charge. Yes the quotes were checked as "like with like", and cannot still work out how a system can be -$4K dearer. I really hope that all the great reports about these systems are correct, because the number of dealers in Melbourne are few let alone North East Vic. heaven help if I ever need service. Ended up that the dearer one subcontracted the installation work out. We went with the smaller business who provided a more suitable plan (an extra zone and return grill) and we saved over $3k. ------------ Sent from my mobile device ... please excuse the typing missed cakes. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 15Mar 21, 2012 1:23 am I managed to get three names of platinum dealers but only one of them was quick to contact me and explain to me some of the system basics that are already on the Actron Website. I was then provided with a quote for a ESP SRA190 19Kw - $13K. 10 outlets and 8 zones... The above system does not have variable fans that they talk about and can be compared to the daikin... A little confused but still looking. If it is so hard to get prices quoted I wonder how the after sales service would be? Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 16Apr 08, 2012 3:22 pm We have decided to include Actron in our build also. Johnny, was wondering whether I am confused here, you mention ESP SRA 190, but looking at their brochure, if you are talking ESP should you be describing an SRD 190. I'm just asking because we are going the ESP SRD 160c which looks like costing about $12600.00. cheers Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 17Apr 08, 2012 4:55 pm jj1 Your correct the ESP series have model numbers that begin with SRD. I think Johnny_Franklin may have made a typo The SRD160 is a 3 phase unit. The 'c' on the end of your model # means 'Condenser' or outdoor unit. Cheers Re: Actron Air-Thoughts/Reviews from People who already have 18Apr 08, 2012 5:59 pm From the Actron site, if you wish to have their variable fan technology and down to one room capability you need to select a unit from the ESP Plus range not just ESP. You get the exxtra goodies for the extra money!!
