Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 29, 2012 9:10 am Hi guys I hope to get some advice/opinion on the heating option we are getting. We are currently building a double storey in Melbournes West and have a 5star 30kW unit to 11 outlets (5 downstairs, 6 upstairs). The house is 43sq including garage and outdoor areas. Total living/heating area (without laundry, walk in pantry etc that are not heated) is approximately 150m2 upstairs and 130m3 downstairs, give or take m2 for WIR, bathrooms, powder etc. Regular ceiling height. We are looking at a 17.1kW add-on refrigerated unit as a cooling option. My main concern is the number of outlets? We are also looking at upgrading the heater to 35kW and cooling to 20kW. Any experience/advice is appreciated. Cheers Re: Heating/cooli capacity question Melbourne - Brivis 30kW 4Feb 29, 2012 2:46 pm Effectiveness will depend largely on how you want to use it. If the house is zoned to upstairs/downstairs 5 or 6 outlets should work well. If you have too many outlets with cooling you lose velocity with the heating and therefore effectiveness. As long as you don't go ever 15 or under 7 it should be fine. The larger unit will help with cooling load only if you ever need to run both areas. Otherwise not really required. The gas unit should be powerful enough to heat very quickly. Re: Heating/cooli capacity question Melbourne - Brivis 30kW 5Feb 29, 2012 4:18 pm Go to the 21kw unit i have a 28sq house with 18kw unit works well when zoned but house of your sive definatly 21kw unit. If i had to do it all again would go actron can load down to 10% and alternate fan speed also. Re: Heating/cooli capacity question Melbourne - Brivis 30kW 7Mar 01, 2012 8:00 am Make sure the sub-contracter your builder used is not D@ndy Air. These people are cowboys. I had my system commissioned last week, the refrigerant guy from other company found enough problems to fill up a text book. One of the major problem was few outlets downstair have no air coming out. The return air duct has never been sealed, they simply dropped a metre or so down to the void and was sucking air from the roof cavity. I have the largest system and paid a fortune for it but it's useless. This D-dy air is a con. I am hoping to have somebody local to do the installation. Its a pity the builder doesnt let me do it myself !! I had sim issues with return air not being sealed which i had to fix myself by making a box to go in between truss they also located heater and ac on truss were it is not meant to be am now getting confirmation from truss company that it is ok??? Dandy air are useless Re: Heating/cooli capacity question Melbourne - Brivis 30kW 10Mar 04, 2012 8:17 am Like other have said a better installation can out whiegh a bigger system. I went through my system and re engineered the ducting work and made a large return air. Now my 15kwatt system In my 36 square house is almost to big. It still cycles on and off on a 36 degree day. Once the Sun goes down I can even run almost the whole house. Re: Heating/cooli capacity question Melbourne - Brivis 30kW 11Mar 05, 2012 2:40 pm thanks again guys. i spoke to a installer in the western suburbs who confirmed that the heating unit is big enough. hopefully the installation gets done properly, i'll be sure to keep an eye out...
