Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 26, 2012 9:47 am Hello, I get a "free" derby ducted air con system (up to 10 outlets with 4 zones) as part of my Redink home being built here in WA which will initially be a rental for a few years then I will probably live there myself. I see they are provided by Polyaire in SA. If I dont want it I think I get a $5K credit. Its not an inverter and it will cost me at least $8K to put in a better system. My question is should I just let them install it and after the 5 year warranty replace the main units and I can still use the ducting etc or get the $5K back? Anyone have one, what is their experience with them? Cheers! Re: Derby Ducted Air Conditiong Good/Bad? 2Feb 26, 2012 5:08 pm Had one of these in a rental we had while building. It was rubbish. One of those 'day/night' (either bedrooms or living, never both) systems and it was also pretty ineffective, and very, very noisy (especially at night). Chewed through power too. If you're going to have ducted air, bite the bullet and get the system you want and that's right for the house you're building. Re: Derby Ducted Air Conditiong Good/Bad? 3Feb 28, 2012 11:28 am Hi heyden1 The "Derby" is one of the lower end Chinese imports that now flood into the country. Ancient Mariner has probably covered the most annoying facts about this style of unit. Whilst Polyaire is a very reputable company they are certainly not a Refrigeration/Air Conditioning service company specialist and as such would be sub-letting their warranty work which is not the best situation. Whether you intend living there or not is inconsequentual as if it is a rental and it's ducted when they rent it any breakdown will have to be repaired or replaced to maintain the property to the standard they rented. You can bet the fatal breakdown will come when you can least afford it. Anyhow that is my 2 bobs worth and good luck whichever way you choose to go. Take care Ian Re: Derby Ducted Air Conditiong Good/Bad? 7Mar 01, 2012 10:43 am well what can i say about Derby.... We got the Reverce Cycle thrown in as part of the build. We are now in our 'Warranty'period and over the hot part of the last couple of months the aircon hadnt seemed to be working. I called Redink up about it and they took time to get someone out to see me (maybe 3 weeks?). Turns out the contractor they used to install the system, totally messed everything up. Outlets were'nt connected, we have upto 8m extra of tube to ducts, kinked pipes in the roof, the unit out the back is leaking oil, and the unit itself has no refrigerant gas in it. Basically it was just pushing air around when it was those 40degree days. Have rang up redink multiple times to get them to fix it, and has now been pushed to the new 'maintenance' people. Still havent heard from them even though i have left 3-4 messgages. Got our electricity bill the other day and you guessed it,, massive because the aircon hasnt been working even though on. Safe to say, i'm jilted and have lack of confidence in the 'derby' system and customer care i have received. Good luck Re: Derby Ducted Air Conditiong Good/Bad? 8Mar 10, 2012 12:17 pm Hi everyone, Thanks for the replies, my mind is made up, will take the money and install something else. I got what I think is an excellent quote for a Panasonic system 12.5kw with 8 outlets/4 zones using advantage air ducting for $9K installed. They did quote the fujitsu for about $600 cheaper but have heard not so good reports of these breaking down and over the top electricity useage. I have a Mitsubishi ducted in my other property, 12 years on not a single problem! Am waiting for a quote for a Mitsubishi system but the Panasonic quote looks very good.. Thanks again for the replies! Cheers. Re: Derby Ducted Air Conditiong Good/Bad? 9Mar 26, 2012 9:40 pm Just wanted to post a quick update to this as Redink now include Daikin ducted reverse cycle air con (8 outlets/4zones) with their Grande home and they have been kind enough to include me in this upgraded offer so I will be getting a Daikin system instead of a Derby!! This is such a fantastic upgrade and I cannot speak highly enough of the Redink staff so far, hats off to a company that listens to customers that have had issues and they have addressed this (at least for new purchasers) by now offering what is deemed as one of the best air con systems available. Well done! Thanks. Re: Derby Ducted Air Conditiong Good/Bad? 10Apr 26, 2012 7:54 pm A final update on this, just did my prestart today and it was an extra $1250 to upgrade to a Daikin Inverter System which still makes the deal a bargain for a top quality ducted air con system.
