your heating & cooling concerns

Hi everyone - i was hoping to get some feedback from you all if you would be so kind?

When you are looking to buy a heating or cooling system - what are your concerns? I mean are you worried about the type of '*******' tradesmen that are going to turn up and cut holes in your floor? Or is that they'll make a huge mess inside your home? Or trample mud/dust through your home?

I'd love to hear your concerns ... perhaps what you 'think may happen' or what has actually happened to you that was no good...

When buying a heating or cooling system my main concerns, in order of importance are:

1) Effeciency of the system (that is, running costs)
2) Cost of the system
3) Reliability of the system

I assume it will be installed so that it looks good.

Mark,

If ******* tradesmen are the issue I reckon that's the best killer of any business.
Word of mouth would soon get around so the tradies should be clean and tidy - no matter what :shock:

For me all of these things come to the equation.

My big concern was all the dust being blown around with ducted heating, surely not healthy. I always wandered how much is this fact contributing to Australia's no. 1 status in terms of asthma.

That was the main reason we went for hydronic heating.

I had trouble with a few stores when I was buying my cooling system. The problem was they were telling me what I had to have and would not quote me on what I wanted.

They kept looking at my home plan and telling me I must have reverse cycle air conditioning which I did not want.

The third place I went to did listen to what I was wanting to acheive and worked with me to design a system that worked, and it works well.

I am worried about all of the same things others have commented on but I am also worried about whatever system I choose packing it in the day after the warranty finishes. How do you choose between two different prices for two different brand units. It gets difficult to work out how much extra you pay for the best (ie Daiken) versus the middle of the range (?panasonic) and which brand has the most to offer if you don't want to go for the most expensive.

All I want is for both to work.

Air Con cools the house in summer

Heater keeps the house lovely and warm in winter.

This may seem obvious, but so many systems do not do this. I have froze in many of my friends houses who have inadequate heating systems or melted with air cons pumping out air that cannot possibly cool the whole space.

I just want excellent, knowlegable advise based on my house layout.
