Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Nov 14, 2011 6:59 pm I rent a 2-storey townhouse which has east facing glass sliding doors onto balconies from the living room (upstairs) & bedroom (downstairs). Downstairs isn't too bad as we have heavy curtains & there is shading from the upstairs balcony. Upstairs in the living area has no curtains, basically no shading from eaves, & a flat roof without ceiling insulation. As you can image, just awful in summer. I was planning on getting window tinting but reading through some forums makes me doubt whether this will help. We have water views so don't want to block the view permanently (plus the owner would never agree). I doubt we can install permanent shades outside either. Can anyone suggest a solution? Will tinting help at all??? If so, who do I talk to about getting the right product? Many thanks! Re: tinting east facing glass sliding doors 2Nov 15, 2011 10:54 am Tinting will make a big difference without spoiling the views. I used TintaCar and chose the most reflective tint, I think it was 80% reflected heat - it looks like a mirror during the day. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: tinting east facing glass sliding doors 3Nov 16, 2011 9:24 am We had tint installed on our home last summer and it has made a massive difference in the heat soak through the windows, the house stays much cooler than previously and our A/C doesn't have to work so hard Re: tinting east facing glass sliding doors 4Nov 16, 2011 12:13 pm Thanks so much for your replies. I'm a life-long renter so have no experience in home building or maintenance & its hard sorting through all the information available on the web. Hearing other peoples experiences helps me a lot. It's always risky to fork out money in a rental but I can't go through another summer as is. The warning is on the sticker on the door too.
