Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 24, 2011 12:46 pm Hi all, We visited some display homes the other day and noticed a new trend - Large louver panels separating rooms, allowing the option of letting more light/visibility into rooms or corridors that could be a bit dark. All the new homes had them! So, do you have louvers in your new home? ... and do you have a split system on the wall? Basically, I'd like to cool the front of our house with a split system, but it is separated into two rooms with doors. I'd love to find out how much of the cool air would move through the louvers from room 1 into room 2 if we knocked out the wall and put some louvers in. To know this would solve a few problems for me in my home but I don't exactly want to spend that much money to find out if it's going to be successful or not! Can anyone comment on this? Cheers, HC Re: Anyone Louvers and Split system ? 2Oct 26, 2011 9:34 am A lot of early Darwin homes still have louvre internal walls to allow free movement of air around the house as ventilation can be a problem in the humidity of the wet season. It works well even with just the ceiling fans on. I would think that you idea would work fine but perhaps you could ask an aircon company if they have any experience with this. Re: Anyone Louvers and Split system ? 3Oct 26, 2011 9:42 am Cool. Thanks fo the Dawrin info. Sounds like it could be ok then.... Yes, I'm asking a few sources for info to get some scope on the problem. I will be asking the AC installer but unfortunately, people who are trying to sell you air conditioners as a living usually give a 'Yes' answer, whether the louvers will work or not. That's life. .. thus this post at the forum Cheers, HC Re: Anyone Louvers and Split system ? 4Nov 02, 2011 4:53 pm Bump.... Any other thoughts on this? Perhaps from some Aircon guys? Cheers, HC Re: Anyone Louvers and Split system ? 5Nov 03, 2011 7:55 pm Yeah you will get air flow through the louver's, but as with anything the full effect of the cooling/heating will be effected, due to some air flow restriction via the louvers. As for the exact amount of restriction and how well the tempreture could be controlled, there are to many variables to work out a decent answer. The cost/benefit of wired setups for the house are no longer what they used to be. Lots of wireless options. Eufy, Arlo and… 2 9767 Once you know the basics, the rest is easy.
