Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 22, 2011 7:13 am Hi can anyone recommend suppliers/installers of hrdronic heating in Melb? We are building a double story house and are thinking of having coilos in the slab downstairs. Can we run panels or some other system upstairs of the same boilers? What shoul i expect to pay for slab heating for roughly the down stairs part of about 20sq? Is it expensive to run once installed? cheers john Re: hydronic heating suppliers in melb and cost 2Oct 30, 2011 11:52 pm Hi John, Sound like I'm having the exact same heating system as yours! My Chippes have justed started the frame of my new owner built two storey home and we have had hydronic pipes laid in the slab and will have panels upstairs. Our place is about 18sq upstairs and 18 downstairs. It will be nearly impossible to run pipes once the house is built, especially if on a slab. We have had 7 coils of pipes laid and will have 5 panels and two towel rails installed later. We are having one boiler which will do both but you need a mixing station as the temperatures are different for the slab and panels. You can have a separate controllers if you want but we will be using thermostatic valves on the panels so two controllers is not much point. A good site for panels is http://www.designerheat.com.au/. We decided on a quote of around $20k which included designer panels (models '102' and 'source vertical') and towel rails which most places charged an arm & leg for. One of the towel rails is 'BDO25' which wide and short whereas most are tall and skinny. Not sure what just the slab pipes would cost though. We had quotes, using basic panels, ranging from 17k - 24k. I ended up using http://www.heatair.com.au/ and have been ok so far, even after them redoing the quote about 5 times! Can't comment on their final installation though. Hope this helps. Re: hydronic heating suppliers in melb and cost 3Oct 31, 2011 5:21 pm We went with a similar system, a combination of floor coils and panel heating in a single story renno/extension. Our extension is on a slab, which is why we went for floor coils, and because the floor coils give you much more freedom in room design. Also floor coils work out cheaper than panels overall, as its really only plastic piping tied to reo. We are not in yet so I cant tell you how much it costs to run, but like any heating or cooling, its only as good as the thermal efficency of the house itself. Ours is wrapped in a blanket of double glazing, foam render and insulation so I should be dirt cheap to run.
