If you are now living in the house, can you notice the difference? I would love to hear from anyone who has used this product. Thanks. Re: Has anyone here used Smartglass? 2Aug 04, 2011 9:43 pm I will probably be howled down.... but IMO none of these smart glasses can compete with double glazing. Sure it costs more but it actually works, the whole of europe canada... and anywhere else its cold cant be wrong. Re: Has anyone here used Smartglass? 4Aug 05, 2011 6:58 pm KATmandu I have being researching on other forums and have seen similar comments there! I've heard it costs approximately double the price.. would that be correct? Of greater concern is that it doesn't work... well it does, but only on radiant heat and only in still air, and that is very little. Also it is prone to spontaneous fracture caused by thermal shock, and the Low-E surface is easily damaged. Not so smart after all... Apparently in the UK this type of product is taking off in buildings where local planning prohibits the installation of window frames capable of taking double glazing in certain heritage listed properties. The show I saw the house in question was in Scotland, so pretty cold up there. PS. thinking about it some what the product I saw was actually a double glaze product however it used thin glass on either side with the cavity filled with a special gas of some kind rather than air. The whole pane however still fitted into any frame that a single glazed pane could fit, hence why it could be used as a direct replacement in heritage listed buildings.
