Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Has anyone here used Smartglass? 5Aug 06, 2011 9:41 pm Not sure if it is this product or not, but when I lived in the UK I saw a home renovation program where they had a glass product that apparently had the same/similar thermal characteristics as double glazing, but was as thick as single glazing. Apparently in the UK this type of product is taking off in buildings where local planning prohibits the installation of window frames capable of taking double glazing in certain heritage listed properties. The show I saw the house in question was in Scotland, so pretty cold up there. PS. thinking about it some what the product I saw was actually a double glaze product however it used thin glass on either side with the cavity filled with a special gas of some kind rather than air. The whole pane however still fitted into any frame that a single glazed pane could fit, hence why it could be used as a direct replacement in heritage listed buildings.
