Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 19, 2011 3:22 pm Hi I requested refrigerated cooling as part of my new home build The builder I am using has quoted for an upgraded ducted heating system with an air conditioning add on unit THe air con unit is a 17kw 10 point unit. JUst want any one with any knowledge to comment on how effective add on units are . It will be a 2 story house approx 28 sqm and if I am getting a fair price which is $11,000 for upgraded heating system and add on air con unit Re: Add on Air Conditioning to existing Ducts 2Jul 19, 2011 5:00 pm We are quite happy with our add on unit. Our prices won't be comparable because its a single storey house and we got the air conditioning added on later. Air conditioning does require bigger ducts than heating alone so we got the builder to upgrade those as part of the original contract. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! JUst want any one with any knowledge to comment on how effective add on units are . It will be a 2 story house approx 28 sqm and if I am getting a fair price which is $11,000 for upgraded heating system and add on air con unit Is 28 squares internal (ie not including garage etc??) 17.1 Will be ample when used with zoning. Even if its just two zones. Refrigerated are expensive to run so you need to ensure you set up your zones correctly to minimize the area being cooled. Larger ducts are required in order to maximise the air flow as cooling requires more air flow than a similar size heating unit. Also what are your expectations as to how good you expect the system to work?? If it is 38 degrees outside what do you expect it to be inside with air cond on?? regarding pricing if this is an HX30 and add on 18Kwatt unit (three phase) (actually produces 17.1) Kwatt than about $13K is the average installed price for a new system. Re: Add on Air Conditioning to existing Ducts 4Jul 20, 2011 10:49 am thanks for the replies the house is approx 24 squares with out the garage in reagrds to cooling down the house I would be wanting something that can cool the house to 21-23 degrees on a hot 38 degree day. I figure if a large space can achieve this with a decent split system a ducted system should be able to achieve the same result. Am I right in thinkning this? In regards to cost I am starting to worry the 10k is a bit cheap after doing research 13 k seems about right. The units they have included are a vulcan 30k phase 3 . 4star for heating and lennox 17kw for add on aircon. I can't find vulcan anywhere on the net (looks like they merged with bonaire) could they be suppliying an old end of life unit? also have not heard much about lennox other than what's on their sparse website anyone know if they are decent units? Re: Add on Air Conditioning to existing Ducts 5Jul 20, 2011 11:26 am I am not a fan of mixing brands. price wise its about right. 13K is the price of the whole system. So one would think that the builders original system is worth about $3K. I would go either all Lennox which are actually quiet good( American made i believe), or the brivis units which are good also because they have good fan speeds which are better for add on cooling. Re: Add on Air Conditioning to existing Ducts 6Jul 20, 2011 10:02 pm The system is designed for a 13 degree drop in temparture so on a 38 degree day it should get your house down to 25 which is very comfortable anyway most people run aircons on 24 you will find 21 to be to cold and cost you alot more in running cost, 21 in airconditioning is bit like running ducted heater at 25 degrees The brand i find best is Braemar heater with a actronair add on and if it's a double storey i recommend 2 controllers 1 up 1 down much better temparture control Anybody know any good and reasonably priced Air conditioning contractors/companies that could install a ducted air conditioning system in the Central Coast NSW for a small… 0 8984 go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110229 The last home I lived in didn't have a pool and when i went to sell it the agents were not happy, even telling me to put one in to sell the place.
