Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jun 12, 2011 3:39 pm Hi, We are building a new home and asked our electrician about built in outdoor heating and he said not to bother as it would be around $6000 plus expensive to run. Just wanted to see if anyone has considered or has built in outdoor heating and whether these costs seem right? He told us that a portable gas heater is the only real option unless money is no object. While we like the heat that comes from these heaters, they are big and have to change the bottles so would prefer something else. Anyway, if anyone knows an effective and reasonable heating option it would be appreciated, Thanks! Re: Alfresco heating options 2Jun 12, 2011 6:46 pm If the conditioned area is not airtight and insulated then you will lose a lot of heat. It will cost a fortune to run. If you are really keen then pure radiant heating directed at the occupants is the most efficient.
