If you require a larger capacity system then 3 phase is often required. 3 phase is quite efficient however single phase inverter technology is generally more so but limited in capacity. Single phase non inverter is likely to be less efficient than both these. Lets try an example. One man pushing a car compared to three. Power is supplied in a 'wave'. A single man pushes each wave compared to 3 pushing one after the other in each wave. The three 'waves' or pushes, happen in the same time as the single 'wave' or push, making it a more efficient method. Inverter technology removes 'startup current', the sudden large draw of power when a single or 3 phase fixed speed unit starts. Inverter systems change the capacity required to match the load, therefor using less power. A hot day it runs at 100% capacity, on a mild day it may only be 30%. In the end specific system specs and installation materials/methods will determine how efficient a system is. A reputable dealer should tailor what best suits your needs. Hope this has passed on some helpful information rather than confusion. Re: 3-phase air con on single phase power 9May 26, 2011 11:57 pm acrebuild1 You are fine with single phase on three but see if you can get a 3 phase unit of the same capacity you will be better off - capacity required? As was previously discussed 3 phase on single - not going to happen - too much current draw You get what you pay for! How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5933 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
