Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 07, 2011 4:25 pm Hi, We have a 70s house with a very old Brivis ducted heating unit which is no longer working. 6 ducts seem to be ok. The unit is currently in a cupboard. Apparently Brivis is the only company who makes cupboard units and we have been warned against Brivis by several companies (who say they are outdated). Most places are recommending Braemar, which means we will have to move the location of the unit, most likely under the house. We have been quoted around $5500 - does this seem like a good price? Has anyone else had any similar experiences? And are Brivis as bad as many people are saying they are? Thank you! Re: Cost of ducted heating changeover 2May 09, 2011 6:57 pm The price will depend on the unit. We had a Brivis unit under the house which had a flue right through the laundry which we have replaced with a Braemar and relocated. We are using our existing ductwork, had a few modifications to them and moved the unit still under the house but so that the flue could go outside and not through the house. The price was $3000 for all this. Re: Cost of ducted heating changeover 3May 21, 2011 8:08 pm Have they warranted their opinions on the Brivis product? 5.8 star industry leading high efficiency systems is far from 'outdated'. Pricing varies dramatically, system, outlets and zones are amongst other variants that affect price. We replaced our 30 year old vulcan ducted heater late last year, the old heater was under the house with a flue that went through the verandah floor up above the roof The new braemar flueless model had to be placed in a different position but still under the house but we retained most of our duct work, but not all although they did say they were not as good as the new ducts. Anyway cost was $2700 Re: Cost of ducted heating changeover 5May 22, 2011 11:39 am Thanks everyone. We had three quotes and went with the $4700 quote to change over to Braemar and add 3 extra ducts, replace all other ducts, remove old asbestos flue and replace, relocate unit to under the house. It is working beautifully so far! Yeah but Braemar have the most efficent heaters over all and you don't have to wait a month for them to come for warranty break downs or be on hold for a hour trying to book a warranty call .
