Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 21, 2011 8:46 pm Hi, I am going to be renovating an old house in Hobart Tasmania. I have looked into ducted heating options - either natural gas ducted or ducted heat pump. I can't believe how much dearer the ducted gas systems are to get installed in Hobart compared to Melbourne where have done it before. Can anyone recommend a ducted gas installer who is affordable in Hobart? Also interested in pursuing a quote for a ducted heat pump system but again the quote seems so much dearer in Hobart. Can anyone recommend a good priced installer for heat pump system? It seems that poor old Tasmania is getting ripped off again or there just isn't enough competition. Look forward to hearing back, Dale. Re: Recommendation for ducted heating in Hobart Tasmania - g 2May 23, 2011 8:11 am dale-reardon Hi, I am going to be renovating an old house in Hobart Tasmania. Look forward to hearing back, Dale. It would help if you would say how much you have been quoted so people can advise if you are really getting ripped off! As for getting ripped off, normally lack of competition goes hand in hand rather than being separate issues. Same issue in Canberra (and I presume most of rural Australia) so don't feel alone. Re: Recommendation for ducted heating in Hobart Tasmania - g 3May 26, 2011 6:09 am We had Braemar system installed in hobart - lovin' it! we had troubles with our installer and wouldn't recommend them, so I will tell you to go see Heffernans in north hobart. The people we got around to give us a quote on ducted heat pump never got back to us with price, and I will never chase someone up - they lost our custom because they couldn't ring. typical tassie customer service Re: Recommendation for ducted heating in Hobart Tasmania - g 4May 26, 2011 2:58 pm Hi, Yes have rung Heffernans for a quote but they are fairly expensive. Can you tell me who to avoid? It would really be appreciated. If you don't want to post on the forum you can email me at: daleATdalereardon.com Or can give you my phone number if prefer that. Thanks, Dale. Re: Recommendation for ducted heating in Hobart Tasmania - g 5May 26, 2011 10:52 pm An option - Try Actrol Parts. They can supply the unit and components and recommend a local installer. I used them recently for a holiday house. Due to their volume of parts / units / components they ship down to their stores in Hobart and Launceston, freight effects their price a lot less than most Tassie companies from what I found Just a thought You get what you pay for! With them, you need to organise the gas fitter and duct installation yourself, plus take note of where the ducts will go when they do the quote. If you need to pay for a project manager you would be well advised to just engage a builder who would take full responsibility for the build.
