Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 12, 2011 10:10 pm We are building a house in Victoria and we were going to have the standard ducted heating the builder supplied and evaporative cooling installed by them, but we are not sure if this is the way to go. The heating they provide is a very basic system with a manual control and pretty poor star rating I think. To upgrade to a better unit is another $1355 and another $705 for each additional zone in the house. We were thinking at least 2 zones will be needed (3 would be nice). This is for a programmable unit too. The cooling seems okay. 16kw with teh LCD control pad - not just the basic one. They were charging $4900 for that. I am just wondering if we would be better getting it all installed by someone else with similar or different types of heating/cooling and what people would recommend? We will recieve $2650 credit back for the heating, which with the cost of the upgrades and the cooling makes $9610 (or $10315 with the 3 zones). The house has 219sq metres of living. Any advice would be appreciated! Re: Air conditioning and heating - What type? 2Apr 13, 2011 5:20 pm its Ok if you like evaporative cooling I don't like it. You can find threads here on the plusses and the minus. With my house I went for the ducted heating only but increased the size of the ducts and added a power supply. I then added a split system later. I'm very happy with the results The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
