Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 09, 2011 8:48 pm Hi All, I am building a small house (130m2) which has limited space between the house and fences (both sides). I want to have ducted reverse cycle air-conditioning. But can I get them to put the unit on the roof? Why don't people seem to do this? Would I need the builder to make the roof frame stronger? Is weight the issue? I am having a colorbond roof (not sure if that affects anything). Thanks for your help! 23 Aug 2011: Land settlement 14 Sep 2011: Block levelled 20 Oct 2011: Slab 3 Nov 2011: Frame 10 Feb 2012: Handover http://s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g372/Dazzab6/ Re: Reverse cycle air-con unit on the roof? 2Apr 10, 2011 11:09 pm Anyone? 23 Aug 2011: Land settlement 14 Sep 2011: Block levelled 20 Oct 2011: Slab 3 Nov 2011: Frame 10 Feb 2012: Handover http://s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g372/Dazzab6/ Re: Reverse cycle air-con unit on the roof? 3Apr 11, 2011 7:16 am Mounting on the roof can be done, things to take into account are: -The bracing and the framework has to take into account the weight of the unit and any windloading -How are you going to get the unit into place? Is it going to be a three man lift and some fancy footwork or crane it in? -Ensure the entries for the pipework and wiring are watertight. This is going to be especially tricky trying to make sure its all watertight, may have to check from underneath the roof to see if the sealant has gone all around. Besides all the above, its possible to do. Re: Reverse cycle air-con unit on the roof? 4Apr 11, 2011 8:15 am Thanks E1109. Getting it into place... that's what I was forgetting. And that would be tricky... They just use a "chimney" to exhaust the heat (cold) from the coil. P_D . And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5944 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
