Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Apr 04, 2011 9:15 pm Hi guys, Wondering if anyone else has been through this situation... I am redeveloping an old property in Melbourne, and it has not had gas connected for over 5 years but there is an old gas meter. In preparation for handover (this friday), I ordered a new connection for gas and electricity last week. The gas was never connected, I found out today at my PCI. I rang the company, they told me another retailer had billing rights to the meter! What the! They weren't able to tell me which retailer, so I had a guess at AGL. I rang them and yep, they have billing rights. They are coming on Thursday to do the connection, but I am freaking out as the meter is ancient and the builder told me it looks like some parts are damaged. I told AGL that I might need a new meter, and they told me the guys that come out on Thursday will leave me a note if this is the case. If I need a new meter, now I won't know until Thursday evening. This could stuff up my appliance installation in the morning and me moving out! I'm more than a little bit worried. Has anyone been through this kind of thing before? What were your experiences? Re: Getting a new gas meter 2Apr 05, 2011 8:09 pm I'm guessing others haven't been through this experience! It's all worked out now. Don't bother ringing the new connections, accounts, anything like that. Get in contact with technicians. After spendding 1.5 hours today being switched from department to department, someone came to the site and rang directly off their mobile and asked if I wanted a new meter tonight or tomorrow morning! How's that for service? I'm not sure what the legislation is, but when it comes to replacing a faulty meter, they are quick. Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
