[sneakersss] Re: Is now a bad time to get air conditioning? 22Jan 03, 2008 11:18 pm YSSIM We already have three phase power as well as larger ducting in preparation of doing the add-on after handover. I'm aware of the water lines situation, not aware of the meter box upgrade (care to elaborate?) and don't know what you mean by power to the point. If you mean a powerpoint for the external unit then we also have that, too. Okay if you've already got 3 phase, then that's fine, unless you need surge protection, but i'm not sure if that's a requirement. If you have the power point there, that's good, what about the water line to where the compressor will be???? Then they need to connect the unit to the network controller ( if you already have one)? If it's a case of coming in and just connecting up the unit, and no further work to do -it shouldn't be over $10K i would think???? You could ask the contractor who did the job for your builder- or at least shop around and compare apples with apples??? Man it's amazing the learning curve you go through in this building process hey???? Gee, and here i am already talking about the next time we build I'm so going to get slapped by the other half.... Let us know how you go. Who did you build with again??? Re: Is now a bad time to get air conditioning? 23Jan 03, 2008 11:24 pm it like a 2 month wait over here in the west at the moment to get air con installed. unless you know a gas plumber Building again . . with Redink Pre-start 04/12 Keys - 03/13 Finishing off. . . We also have surge protection installed at the meter box. I was advised to get the water lines installed while building as it would be easier (and look nicer?!) but didn't as I really couldn't be bothered. And we also have a network controller but probably need another one as I get sick of walking to the other side of the house just to adjust the temp. Hehe **Phoenix** If it's a case of coming in and just connecting up the unit, and no further work to do -it shouldn't be over $10K i would think???? You could ask the contractor who did the job for your builder- or at least shop around and compare apples with apples??? Let's hope it's not over 10k otherwise I'm moving to antarctica! And, we've had a convo with the guy who installed our ducted heating. He also suggested possibly needing an extra outlet point. I haven't contacted them yet as I'm guessing they weren't in the office during the xmas/ny holiday period. **Phoenix** Man it's amazing the learning curve you go through in this building process hey???? Gee, and here i am already talking about the next time we build I'm so going to get slapped by the other half.... Let us know how you go. Who did you build with again??? A MASSIVE learning curve, indeed. But I've enjoyed it. And I love my house. And don't worry we're more alike than you think. I'm constantly talking about the next time we build and the other half just stares at me and says 'Okay...'. I will update everyone on the situation when another development occurs. Hopefully I won't have melted by then. Hehe And we built with PD. It will be winter by then! I don't think happy would be the right word. Who's ever happy spending 10k? Hehe But we're fine with the price. Although I won't be happy if we decide to get it and then they come to the house for a final check quote and they tell us it's going to be more! I'll PM you the details when I get home tonight. I'm at work in the nicely air conditioned office. The other half is at home melting. Haha [sneakersss] Re: Is now a bad time to get air conditioning? 30Jan 04, 2008 2:53 pm Missy, if it's not the contractor who installed the system, then contact the one's who did the install....ask them for a quote (but don't tell them the price you have).
If they want the job, they'll quote it and then there is no worry about complaining about the other guy's workmanship.... plus you know you can get both units serviced through the one place.....if need be???? You should be able to work it down to under $9K i would think.... Speak soon. Re: Is now a bad time to get air conditioning? 31Jan 05, 2008 12:00 pm My Husband installs airconditioners, we are in the south eastern suburbs of melbourne, Give him a call , his name is Matt 0416105912, he doesn't supply airconditioners but can point you in the right direction to get the best deal. Re: Is now a bad time to get air conditioning? 32Jan 05, 2008 4:30 pm Ahhh - It was nice swimming and kayaking in the Goulburn river on those days Much nicer than cranking on an aircond
re getting and installer - one of the issues they have is they also get lots of breakdowns at the start of the hot weather too - hence - it's hard to find anyone with time to install a unit during the same time as 10,000 othr people think - dam I'm getting aircond before Saturday !!! Steve Re: Is now a bad time to get air conditioning? 33Jan 05, 2008 4:33 pm Hey Steve, hows the Victorian weather treating you???? Damn hot again today!!!!
But hey we got the air con installed yesterday...now it's too cold in the house!!!!!! Not complaining though....much.... Re: Is now a bad time to get air conditioning? 34Jan 05, 2008 4:46 pm Yeah it was hot - I actually climbed the peaks of Mt Buffallo on the 29th Dec. and drank lots of nice cold beer in Bright that night :shock
But the water from the Eildon Dam was just right 17 degrees and ideal for paddling in all day Just drove home today (9 hours non stop) and yes I had the car Air-cond on It was 40 degrees in some places (according to the in car temp guage which is pretty accurate.
