Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 25, 2011 12:53 am Hi All I have been considering the differnet options available for heating/cooling the proposed new build and have been comparing 3 options: 1. Dainkin ducted reverse cycle 12.5kw, can be had for $12k installed 2. Brivis ICE 15kw heater and a 11kw ref (ducted gas heating/rfrig cooling addon), can be had for $10k installed 3. Splits - 1 x Pana 8kw, 1 x Fuji 3.5kw, 3 x Fuji 2.5kw, can be had for $7k installed House room sizes are Din/Liv/Kit open plan 65m2, Master/ensuite 28m2, Theatre 18m2, Bed2&3 14m2. I am in a 100m2 rental villa at the moment that has evap which has proved itself to be useless during our humid heatwave (I was going to have one in the new place but not now), last winter I got a 6 star Rinnai gas heater for the lounge and it heats the whole villa quite economically. The scrooge in me was thinking to just get the splits and use the Rinnai in the open plan area of the new place if the Pana is to expensive to heat the open plan area. Any advice/comments much appreciated. Re: Split System Prices 2Feb 26, 2011 9:10 pm venno, Assuming you are in VIC otherwise I would rule #2 out. I'd be surprised if you can get 5 splits installed for $7k - good luck to you if you can - why different brands if that is the case...? Done your research or going on what you are told? You get what you pay for! Re: Split System Prices 3Feb 26, 2011 9:37 pm MagicMuppetMan venno, Assuming you are in VIC otherwise I would rule #2 out. Hi MagicMuppetMan I am in Perth. I took the plunge today and got all Pana inverter reve cycle from Good Guys. Paid $4110 delivered for: 7.4kw, 3.5kw and 3 x 2.6kw. The Good Guys install service was $2600 for the bunch, but as my place isn't built yet I declined. I have a sparky mate and a fridgy from work that I'm hoping can be bribed with lots of beer when the time comes (course I'll pay for sundry items, only fair ). cheers Re: Split System Prices 4Feb 28, 2011 4:54 pm venno, Congrats on the purchase! Are the 3 x 2.6kW units stand alone or is this a multi-head system? Either way I am sure you will be happy. One point to note and it should not be an issue but noise needs to be considered with 3-5 outdoor units - ultimately my experience in Perth is that "all A/C's are generally too loud regardless - after 9p.m" they can ultimately be asked to be relocated "should" neighbours complain (rules may have changed a little but too much I would say - if anything they may be stricter? Councils that is!) Ultimately, the onus is on the installer - good luck You get what you pay for! Re: Split System Prices 5Feb 28, 2011 6:21 pm Thanks Dude The 2.6 are individual ones. I know what you mean about noise, luckily it won't be a prob for me. 2 small units will face my RHS neibour but his lot sits quite higher than mine. No immediate neigbour on the LHS for the big ones, laneway then neighbours block whcih is a fair bit lower than my lot. Street slopes down a hill basically. and the last small unit in my front courtyard. The panas are pretty quiet with the nite mode, if you use it I guess. Move your linen into laundry and access laundry from your present linen space 1 8002 Tradie may sit at home but will need to get house plastered as well or will you sit it out? 6 9938 Once you know the basics, the rest is easy.
