Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 15, 2011 9:34 pm We weren't originally going to put fans in our minor bedrooms/study because I was being precious and wanted clean ceilings but the heat in summer in Brisbane is a joke and I am not big on air conditioning so fans seem like a logical solution. We are putting a Typhoon metal one in our rumpus and had a look around today for the bedrooms. We've seen the Fan away & Typhoon 48 (timber blades) with the light for bedrooms. What would you all suggest, what do you have. what is good,w hat is bad!!! I've never had fans I am a bit lost. Do I go white for it to blend into the ceiling or go the brushed chrome which is the same as my windows. Any help please would be super appreciated. ta Re: Help me pick a fan!!! 2Feb 15, 2011 9:46 pm I like the brushed chrome ones, they look good. I also like the wooden ones, I am not rapt in the Fan away, just don't like the look of them. We will probably go for the brushed chrome, when our house is built. Re: Help me pick a fan!!! 3Feb 15, 2011 9:57 pm The Hunter Typhoons get a good rap up here - recommended to push the most air. The white ones will rust less than the other colour options from what I hear. I wouldn't worry too much about what fans to choose. Go with what you like now and if they don't work out to be what you expected they are easily changed down the track. Re: Help me pick a fan!!! 4Feb 15, 2011 10:25 pm We had a fan from Beacon in our bedroom, it was very noisy so this year we replaced it with a typhoon hunter pacific and it is so quiet in comparison and gets my vote every time Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. We're looking at the Futura Eco 132cm models with 22W ES light throughout the house and one without a light in the rumpus/theatre room (which will have dimmable lighting) and alfresco. Not sure whether we will go for the single or dual globe models - we like the lower profile of the oyster light in the single globe version but we're not sure if a single 22W compact ES globe will be sufficient to illuminate our larger living spaces so we'll have to wait and see on that count. We'll also probably go with the white models rather than the brushed chrome one as the chrome fans might stand out a little too much in our black-on-white color scheme (although they do look very nice and we'll probably get a brushed chrome fan for the alfresco). Edit: We'll be Melbourne's northern fringe so our cooling needs will be different to someone living in Brisvegas, although this summer I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between the two cities a lot of the time because it has been -very- humid down here for extended periods of time over the past few months. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: Help me pick a fan!!! 6Mar 04, 2011 2:44 am First house we built we just had the fans that they supplied in the stainless steel. The sparkie put them in the middle of every bedroom. When summer arrived we discovered how useless they were. After a little research on our next house we found stainless steel fans again, yet the blades were a little different and we get more air off them. Also put the fans exactly over the beds this time. When we build again we will have the fan controller next to the light dimmer switch beside our bed. Re: Help me pick a fan!!! 7Mar 04, 2011 11:15 am I've followed Choice magazine recommendations and got Hunter Careras with birch blades for my bedrooms. I bought them from Universal Fans http://www.universalfans.com.au/index.htm, who fitted the Eclipse oyster lights on them for me. The fans are whisper quiet (except one that growls in top gear, but we never use top speed, so no problem) and shift air very well. For family and dining I got Hunter Pacific Typhoons, which shift air very well too, are noisier than Careras, but cheaper. I LOVE ceiling fans, we couldn't have survived Perth heat wave this summer without them. Please note - Hunter and Hunter Pacific are totally different firms, no connection between them apart from the name. We have the normal fan one foot from the bed, on everynight, but it's just not the same. Our Electrician is taking us somewhere in Thomastwown to get ours, he said they are much better quality than Beacon and he gets forty per cent discount, he is a friend, so we are lucky.
