Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Feb 02, 2011 9:58 am Hello everyone, We have had this evaporative cooling system for some years now (It is a CoolBreeze), at least five but probably more like 7 or 8 years can't exactly remember. Anyway it gets quite loud sometimes, so loud in fact that one of our neighbours has complained to us about the noise (the roof box unit thingo is on their side and apparently close to their bedroom). I guess it's about as loud as a big old struggling refrigerating air-conditioning unit. I don't know if it's gotten louder since it's been installed or if it's just always been like this as we don't really hear it as much from inside and have probably just gotten used to the noise. The neighbours complained because we had it on during the night last week and it was apparently so loud they had trouble sleeping (we don't usually have it on overnight, only when it's very hot). So I sympathize with our neighbours but I'm not exactly sure what to do about it? I mean we could just not use it, but that defeats the point of having it. Is it time to upgrade to newer model? Perhaps the one that was installed in the first place is actually too small for the size of our house? Should we remain with CoolBreeze or go for a different brand? BreezeAir seems to be popular? I guess they'd just need to replace the pump/fan/thingy that's on the roof as all the ducts and everything are still there? Also, when you turn it on it's on for the whole house, is it possible just to turn it on for one room at a time? For instance if I'm working in my study I don't need it on in the rest of the house, but the current one doesn't give me any choice. Are they all like this? Would it be very expensive to change? And how much do you think it would cost us to fix this noise problem? The house is two storeys, not sure what it is in square metres would have to check but it's a reasonable size. The lower level is mostly double brick so doesn't get that hot, it's just the upstairs that gets particularly hot in the summer. Thankyou. Re: Coolbreeze unit is too loud 2Feb 19, 2011 12:12 am Hi there Coolbreeze are known to be at the lower end of the market and very noisy! We had a Coolbreeze (older model) in a rental we were in and boy was it noisy!! Luckily the neighbour was the landlord so he couldn't complain!! lol! Breezair are the supposed quietest on the market and we are onto our second Breezair (one in our first home and now one in our second home) and it is brilliant and never hear anything! you can stand right underneath it almost and hear hardly anything!! I just have to take a walk around my neighbourhood to hear all the Coolbreezes and Coolairs whirring away loudly!! I would definitely look into changing the unit - I would think that the existing ducting and outlets would be ok to use again but best to ask when you go get quotes. Ain't that the truth! We used to have a tile roof and had it replaced with colorbond and suddenly everything throughout the entire house sounds louder! 4 6685 I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe. S o I… 0 36937 It will be neat but you won't have much freeboard. At least they are not weep holes. Are you in a high intensity rainfall region? The regulatory slope is only required… 3 8265 |
