Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 22, 2011 10:43 am Hi there, I'm totally new to this whole subject, so I apologize in advance if I get some of the terms wrong etc. We just built a new house in the Perth area with a Colorbond roof and whatever they put in as standard insulation. My first question: is foil included as part of standard or is that one of those extras that we were supposed to notify them about at prestart? Next, can foil or sarking be installed after the fact now that the house is finished? Next, anticon looks to be glasswool with a foil facing, so would you use the anticon in place of sarking? Thanks for any info... Re: Foil, anticon questions 2Jan 22, 2011 2:09 pm I assumed sarking was standard on my most recent house but like you found out too late that it wasn't. I would definitely specified it if I had realised. The foil on the anticon does perform some of the heat reflective properties of sarking but I wouldn't use in place of sarking The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Foil, anticon questions 3Jan 26, 2011 6:43 pm So, can both be installed after the fact? Can they be DIY jobs or do we need someone to install it for us? Re: Foil, anticon questions 4Jan 27, 2011 1:51 pm They could be retrofitted but what a pain in the *** that would be ,they are meant to sit between the roof timbers and the roof sheets. Retrofitting would be a lot of cutting ,taping and crawling out to edges of roof. You may be better off upgrading ceiling batts and putting in some sort of solar fan to vent the heat out. Re: Foil, anticon questions 5Jan 28, 2011 11:12 pm Ack. Thanks... I wish the builder would have given it to us as an option at the time...I would have said yes to having it put in...oh well...we know for next time... That's just the sarking that would be the huge pain..could we still put in the anticon...it goes against the roof, does it?...but how is it attached? It doesn't just float there hey? Re: Foil, anticon questions 6Jan 29, 2011 8:03 am Rather than use anticon have you thought of foilboard, as its rigid and comes with various special clips it could be easier. http://www.foilboard.com.au The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! It does float between the battens and roof sheet and is secured by the sheeting and roof screws etc. I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
