Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 12, 2011 6:46 pm I've been advised today that I 'must' install insulation under the floor of the new extension. This is an unexpected extra. The house is on stumps so access isn't a problem. Personally, I think it's overkill and I'd prefer not to have to do it. Brisbane rarely has a problem with the cold, and I prefer ventilation not somewhere for vermin to nest! I guess my question is: who polices if the floor is insulated or not? If anyone has any info or experiences, I'd be most grateful. Re: Sub Floor Insulation in Brisbane - do I have to?? 2Jan 12, 2011 7:13 pm No one has checked ours thus far, but I dont see why you would risk it? Id would be a complete pain to install post construction. You know you can use foilboard rather than batts? We cut out each piece individually but you can just affix them directly as whole sheets which wouldnt as time consuming Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Unfortunately, the extension is in the final stages of construction. It isn't wired yet, walls aren't insulated yet. I wasn't expecting to have to insulate the floor! I contracted a builder to weatherproof stage and it's almost there. It was during part of the certification process that the issue of sub floor insulation came up. It would have been nice if they could have pointed that out *before* the floor went down! Considering the amount of rain that has besieged Brisbane during the build, I can't help but think that if I had installed insulation in the sub floor it would have been drenched several times over by now. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise? Cheers, Susan PS I've been trying to upload some pics to no avail! Keep getting the msg "board quota has been reached" very frustrating! Your energy report must state it in order for it to be a 'requirement' Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Your energy report must state it in order for it to be a 'requirement' Yes, apparently it was mentioned in the energy report. I haven't actually seen said report yet. If it is ultimately necessary, then it will be a pain-in-the-backside-retro-fit. And NOT IN MY BUDGET!! Ah well...such is this building lark eh? Thanks for the info regarding the pics - I'll set up an photo a/c somewhere.
