Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Noisy Air Con 2Jan 07, 2011 10:20 am Hi Jassy, Probably worth consulting the manual that came with it, or looking up the manual from the manufacturer website, as most units have specific requirements of how much clean open space is required around the unit for it to work effectively. I personally wouldn't completely box it in, but you could add screens to one or both sides to help with the noise projecting out, to focus it away from the house (depending on the units orientation). So yeah, check the space it needs then look at it, no point trying to make it quieter if, its just going to result in it working less efficiently. The clearance at the front can often determine clearances required for all other sides, including above the unit. If the front is clear then clearances on all sides except the service side can be minimised. Generally there is a "service side" to a unit where the pipes and power are generally connected - this always has a minimum clearance in this side for servicing. Boxing the unit outside the manufacturers recommendations will likely void warranty - if it is still under warranty and an issue arises. By reducing the units ability to draw and displace heat (when cooling) will make the unit less efficient. Do you have a brand and model? I can look it up if you like as I have a bunch of brands on file Let me know anyway if you like You get what you pay for! How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5928 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
