Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 17, 2010 4:02 pm Hi We are having some issues with our refrigerated airconditioner - makes horrible noise when it is turned on ( the unit is outside on the ground), the noise is in the ceiling ( where the gas ducted heating is). So the noise is when the air conditioing is on. but comes from the ceiling Now they share the same ducted vents in the ceiling, we dont have any seperate vents in the floor - is that normal? We just bought the house and are not used to this type of system. It is about 10 years old. Can the fan in the heater affect the cooling? i am a bit confused thanks Re: ducted ref cooling and gas heating - vents in ceiling - 3Dec 17, 2010 5:36 pm where the air intake is, ( I assume that is the hole in the wall?) behing that wall and upwards in teh ceiling in the next room next to it. - directly above the heating unit. Re: ducted ref cooling and gas heating - vents in ceiling - 4Dec 17, 2010 5:37 pm forgot to add the airconditioning unit outside appears to be going fine. the noise is all in the wall and in the ceiling next to the air intake and where the heater is... thanks Re: ducted ref cooling and gas heating - vents in ceiling - 5Dec 20, 2010 1:36 pm Sound like you either have something caught in your return air or the fan for the system. For your reference. The "outside unit" is the compressor or pump. This pushes the refrigerant through the lines to your "indoor unit" or cooling coil. Your system will use the same fan for heating and cooling. It will either blow air through the heating chamber of your heater or over the cooling coil, then through your vents. The common components of your system are the return air, fan(blower motor) and ducting. Sorry for the late reply have been busy with christmas and family stuff Have got to go but will pop in later this week. renobeginner Re: ducted ref cooling and gas heating - vents in ceiling - 7Jan 06, 2011 9:10 pm It sounds like you have a gas and "add-on" cooling system. There should be a filter on the return air grille (where the air is drawn back to the unit). Ensure this is cleaned as the build up of dust etc blocks the filter and causes the unit fan to struggle to pull the air in. Over time this can wear the parts down It may be the fan / bearings on the ducted gas system needing replacement...? If it is an obvious mechanical noise but I'd clean the filter regardless. retail its around double the price of a similar sized actron/dakin system from memory, They are excellent systems though.
