Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 31, 2010 9:45 am Hi I have an apartment built in AFS Wall Logic Structural Concrete Wall Systems or simmilar - the resulting wall is a single bricks thickness with zero insulation properties (I literally bake in my apartment in summer) - From my research it appears these systems could have been filled with insulating material, but I think the developers of my complex skipped this step and opted for concrete instead. I am looking to to try and make my apartment a little more energy efficient and a little more comfortable by trying to insulate my walls. As the internal plaster was applied directly to the wall system there is currently no cavity for me to insulate. The only option I have come up with so far is to have a stud wall installed on the interior aspect of the wall and insulate that - but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas that might require a little less trouble (I would need to have the ceiling cornice re installed as well as the skirting). Does anyone know of any other insulation system that might address this problem? Thanks Kylie Re: Insulation of cavity-filled brick building systems 2Jan 10, 2011 2:06 pm Hi Kylie, One of the thinnest insulation products that can deliver good performance is coming from Kingspan. I have no affiliation with them whatsoever but I have a good catalog of their products with samples and the thickness is very low compared to the results it delivers (R Value). you certainly would need to minimise the space waste due to your practice so I suggest you give them a call and see what solution do they propose. Insulbreak seems a very suitable product for your situation from the look of it. Good luck. Manuel Basiri I am saying that double brick has similar thermal performance due to thermal mass effect. It will be still very interesting to see the state of your framing after 10-15… 10 23180 2 1471 Hey guys, what’s everyone opinion on James Hardie linea direct fix to frame? Would this be the most common method and anybody ever had any problems down the track? 0 3790 |
