Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 29, 2010 10:25 am Hi Everyone, The builder we are looking at is offering us only one option of refrigerated cooling that is Brivis. From what we have researched Brivis refrigerated cooling is a low end refrigeration compared to the likes of Breeze air and Braemer. It will be great if some of you that have refrigerated installed offer us suggetions if its better to go with the builder or get the refrigerated installed once the house has been built. The Builder is quote is 12.5-13k with only one zone (I have been informed that they do not have zoning available for refrigerated). I don't have an idea of costs from companies such as Breeze air once the building is complete. Cheers, J & C Re: Cost Comparison of Refrigerated cooling Installation 2Dec 29, 2010 10:39 am We took our ducted refigerative airconditioning out of the building contract and organised it ourselves. Ours is a Fujitsu (no idea of specific models or anything like that because it was something my husband organised) We have two units to cool our home and they both have zones so we can have the living rooms cooled but not the bedrooms etc. It is my understanding that one unit is more powerful than the other unit because I think one does the main living areas and the other unit the bedrooms. I'm sorry to sound so vague about this but it was one of those things I was happy for my husband to sort out. I didn't mind what was organised as long as I could have a lovely cool home. I'm not sure of specific costs but I believe it was in the vicinity of $25,000 Re: Cost Comparison of Refrigerated cooling Installation 3Dec 29, 2010 2:28 pm JC as per other thread we had brivis 18kw and me30 xa heater installed with 2 zones and 3 phase power for 12k. It works fantastic only downside unit doesnt slowdown like inverter type system is only off or on. If you are getting ducted heating with your home get some quotes on Actron as these are very good. and just run two systems separatly Re: Cost Comparison of Refrigerated cooling Installation 4Dec 29, 2010 8:22 pm Brivis is a bit of a no frill system. Yes it is very basic but it can work well for the price and use basic reliable technology . Also if you are in melb and will end up using heater more, add on aircond systems means you can run gas heating which will be cheaper to run than elect. All the other more expensive systems are probably better for regions that use aircond regularly. Also keep in mind to consider the system capacity carefully. Over dimensioned systems dont run efficiently when you are talking non inverter type systems. Re: Cost Comparison of Refrigerated cooling Installation 5Dec 29, 2010 8:28 pm We're getting an Actron ducted reverse cycle system installed. The builder offered a 14kw Daiken system and a split system for my work area. The Actron system can power down (digital scroll down to 10% of capacity) enough to cool/heat just one zone at a time, so we don't need a ducted system plus a split for my work area and from the research my husband has done, the outdoor unit is quieter and is apparently the most efficient to run of the ducted systems. We've opted for the Actron Air ESP+ 14.5kw, inverter, reverse cycle, split ducted air conditioner for just under $14,000 installed. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Cost Comparison of Refrigerated cooling Installation 6Dec 29, 2010 9:54 pm we're building a 44 sq double storey home and my other half has requested a heating/cooling system. As it's a PD home, we have upgraded the brivis to have the 21kw add on refrigerated cooling. It has two zones and we were quoted about $12k for the upgrade.
