Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 16, 2010 8:09 pm I have a LG split system a/c about 7 years old, im wondering if its possible to get this removed from our current rental property and re-installed in the home we're buying? Ive no idea on this topic, im not sure if once its in then it stays in, logic tells me that it should be possible to remove one and get it re-installed elsewhere, maybe need re-gassing and new wiring? Dunno Is it worth my while as opposed to buying a new one for the lounge room area of the new place? Any help's appreciated. Re: Removal & re-installing split system a/c 2Dec 16, 2010 8:32 pm Go and buy a new unit, anything over five years from a split is good going. To remove means having to pump down the unit, disconnect the unit from the power and gas lines, removal of the head unit and outdoor unit, filling the hole in the wall and the reinstalling it and hoping nothing has come unglued. Personally I wouldn't bother unless you were that tight fisted that seven hundred or so bucks for a new unit was out of reach for you. BTW 15 years is the general life expectancy for an A/C Re: Removal & re-installing split system a/c 4Dec 17, 2010 10:33 am Depends on the size of the unit. A big one can be very expensive and thus you save a lot more by removing and reinstalling; a little one the savings are no where near as much. Installation is a big component of the cost and they will charge you to take it down safely as well as install it again. Status: sold our first house, moved in with parents, bought our second in Pakenham, still planning to build in a few years time. Re: Removal & re-installing split system a/c 5Dec 17, 2010 11:25 pm A new split system is likely to be quieter, more efficent and covered by warranty, unless you know someone who can remove and reinstall it with minmal cost you're probably better off with a new unit Just imagine if you spent a heap shifting the unit and it kicked the bucket shortly afterwards Re: Removal & re-installing split system a/c 6Dec 18, 2010 10:49 am It wouldn't be worth it for a 7 yr old LG. By the time you pay someone to remove and re-install it, fix up the wall etc I'd say you could get a new one installed for the same money. You got 7 years out of it, just let the next tenants make use of it and buy a new one 2 2525 Move your linen into laundry and access laundry from your present linen space 1 8007 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair At a bit of a loss on this one - we're thinking the original owners never removed the protective laminate covers from their kitchen cabinets after installation and in the… 0 6330 |
