Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 16, 2010 3:01 pm I've got a newly installed 15kW Actron ducted system, and have recently realised that the air coming out of the outlets just isn't cold enough even when set to 18 degrees. Tried dropping it to 16 and within half a minute the thing tripped. So obviously its struggling so i washed the return air filter, but still no difference. Just wondering what could be the issue here? Whats the likelyhood that there's insufficient refrigerant gas or perhaps it has leaked? 12 March 2010 - Land titles received 3 April 2010 - Signed building contract 14 April 2010 - Prestart 28 April 2010 - Loan approved 30 June 2010 - Slab completed 27 August 2010 - Brickwork completed 22 September 2010 - Roofing completed 30 September 2010 - Internal walls plastered 12 October 2010 - Lock Up 19 November 2010 - PCI 26 November 2010 - Handover 29 December 2010 - Moved In https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32584 Re: Aircond not cold enough...what could be the problem? 2Dec 16, 2010 10:01 pm It could be many things. Loss of gas is one. Compressor fault. Faulty PC board. Poor wiring connection. Burnt out relay. Faulty controller. The list goes on. Call a repair person. Re: Aircond not cold enough...what could be the problem? 3Dec 17, 2010 10:23 am ok thanks....yeah i've called the installer but they can only come over next weds. 12 March 2010 - Land titles received 3 April 2010 - Signed building contract 14 April 2010 - Prestart 28 April 2010 - Loan approved 30 June 2010 - Slab completed 27 August 2010 - Brickwork completed 22 September 2010 - Roofing completed 30 September 2010 - Internal walls plastered 12 October 2010 - Lock Up 19 November 2010 - PCI 26 November 2010 - Handover 29 December 2010 - Moved In https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32584 Re: Aircond not cold enough...what could be the problem? 4Dec 17, 2010 11:23 am allanna - don't drop it so low - they never work well - keep the temp to minimum 22C and let it work through. This may not be your problem but will certainly help Re: Aircond not cold enough...what could be the problem? 6Dec 17, 2010 1:42 pm First you need to check the actual air temp. Get a digital termomiter and check what the air temp is coming out at from the vents after 30minutes. You also need to keep in mind what the outdoor temp is at the time of measurement. You should be able to get the air out at 15degrees better that what it is outside. Re: Aircond not cold enough...what could be the problem? 7Dec 17, 2010 11:19 pm I don't think any well designed, correctly installed air conditioner should be tripping out not matter what it's set too. Sounds like there's a problem with the unit that needs to be fixed. Re: Aircond not cold enough...what could be the problem? 8Dec 18, 2010 7:00 am If you set the temp to 18deg it will just run constantly but the air out the vents should still be cold. About 10deg temp difference between temp going in where filter is and coming out vent is about right. Have seen lower but that generally means there is an issue. If you want to know if it is short of gas let it run for about 10 min on cooling and then make sure the compressor is running then grasp the bigger pipe on the outside unit. It should be cold and sweating. Re: Aircond not cold enough...what could be the problem? 9Dec 20, 2010 1:40 pm Your air conditioner will also have a maximum cooling capacity. It may not necessarily get down to 16° if it s too hot out side. If you keep setting it too low the compressor will just keep running until it gets too hot then cuts out for safety. It does sound like it may have a problem though. It's also very unlikely you can do anything about it yourself. Depends how much direct sun it gets. Is there any shading (eaves or trees)?
