Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 14, 2010 12:28 pm Hi All, New to this forum but just wanting to get some feedback from anyone who has built a home through a volume builder and wanted to upgrade the standard heating unit to heating/refrigerated cooling. The heating unit that is standard is a Brivis ME35i and we know there is an add-on cooling system of which PD has quoted us but we just want to do a bit of research to compare pricings etc. The other half feels that the quoted price might be a tad high for an add on and just want to double check that there isn't a double up somewhere along the line. Any feedback, estimates etc would be greatlyl welcomed! Cheers, Mel Building Waldorf 44 with PD Feel free to follow our build progress - http://melnrobsknockdownrebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Brivis HEating and Cooling System Upgrades 2Dec 14, 2010 6:25 pm sounds like you are building a large house, perhaps double storey. The ME35 is one of the biggest gas units. Most builder will charge about 10k to upgrade to add on cooling. What size unit are you gonna put it??? I installed an HE30 + 15kwatt cooling which only does half my house at once in cooling. This cost around 12K. for the whole unit and not upgarde Re: Brivis HEating and Cooling System Upgrades 3Dec 14, 2010 7:04 pm How much did PD quote you? I'm building a 45SQ double storey with Hen***, upgraded to HX35 with 21kw add-on and larger duct and XA fan about $13k. They said it's 3 zones but technically only 2 zones, upstairs/downstairs.
Hope this helps. Re: Brivis HEating and Cooling System Upgrades 4Dec 14, 2010 9:13 pm EmeryBB How much did PD quote you? I suspect the fan unit has also been upgraded from the standard ducted heating specifications. I think the standard minimum recommended is 8". At the moment mine are 8" downstairs and 10" upstairs. I'm waiting to hear back if I can go bigger for downstairs Building Metr1con Riva 33 Burnside, Vic Pre contract stage Re: Brivis HEating and Cooling System Upgrades 6Dec 23, 2010 11:42 am Quote: This is the same system that I'm putting into my house. Minimum for ducted refrigerated cooling is generally 200mm with 250 and 300mm the common 'final' outlets or diameter of ducts connected to the outlet. Ducted gas is more often than not 150mm and 200mm. Because of the limitations in carrying the air in smaller diameter ducts, gas systems will more often than not have more outlets than a refrigerated reverse cycle systems requires. You get what you pay for! Re: Brivis HEating and Cooling System Upgrades 8Jan 20, 2011 9:42 pm Just one note MelnRob, I was also quoted that unit for my build at about $13.5K. It turns out the ME is the 3 star system which is standard for volume builders. I have 5 star in my current home and it really is quite cheap to run (heating only). I asked if they could upgrade the brivis system to 5 star and they said "yep!" Turns out it's the MX35i and it costs $14.5K. So just $1K to go from 3 star to 5 star. If you can stretch the budget, I'd definitely ask about it. A lot of cost of heating and cooling could be minimised.
