Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 05, 2010 7:15 pm hi guys just after some info im having evap cooling installed in my new home, just wondering if i can change the evap cooling unit with a refridgerated unit but still use the same evap cooling ducts? Is it that easy to just remove and install?cheers Re: evap cooloing swap to refridgerated? 2Dec 05, 2010 9:07 pm why bother, just stick with your evap cooling, it works great and is cheap to run. ETA: Im sure you could use the same ducting, but usually refreigerated cooling is zoned, not sure how they would do this as evap is usually not zoned. Also isn't refrigerated units on the side of the house instead of on the roof? Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ Re: evap cooloing swap to refridgerated? 3Dec 06, 2010 9:45 am for the records the ducting would be too large for refrigerated aircond. and you will also need to re route to include a return air. If the pipes are too big, more area is exposed to the heat and less efficient the system. If you already have evap then my rec would be to install split system for those humid days. Re: evap cooloing swap to refridgerated? 4Dec 06, 2010 2:05 pm so pretty much cant do it? its just refridgerated is so expensive, i was in a house yesterday with evap cooling and its so uncomfortable and sticky i got evap cos it was inckuded and they were only crediting me 500 bucks so i went with it i guess il see how i go. I dont wana get 5 splits in the house it will useless id rather save that money for refridgerated one day Re: evap cooloing swap to refridgerated? 5Dec 06, 2010 2:28 pm I had a house in Alice Springs that was fitted with evaporative aircon, worked a treat, cleaned it twice a year due to high calcium levels and cost approx 20 cents an hour to run. On humid or high wind days the splits would be run, we did the master bedroom first and a couple of years later when we had the money we did the other two bedrooms and the living room. |
