Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Nov 29, 2010 1:59 am Hi everyone, I have been researching on this topic all night on this forum and still could not make up my mind. My impression is it is cheaper to get the ducted aircon installed after the handover but it will be messy. Therefore we asked our builder to quote on providing the ducting only (including truss strengthening and 3-phase power). The quote came as $7075. It is a single story home, 220sqm living. This sounds so high and I would love to delete it... May I know how difficult/messy it is to put in the ducted aircon after handover for single story homes? We will have roof sarking. Should I ask the builder to install the aircon which costs about 14k or do the ducts or do nothing? Thanks a lot! Jessica Re: Ducted aircon after handover? Single story house 2Nov 29, 2010 6:33 am Do it all in one go, either during or afterwards... Post build in a single story is unlikely to be problematic... Get a sparky to quote on upgrading to 3 phase power post build and ask your builder how much just for that... You can get up to 17.7kW on single phase with an Actron... Single story house 3Nov 29, 2010 7:30 am Check out air conditioning direct, buy a kit and save thousands. they also have a heap of videos on youtube on how to fit the ducting. I got a heap of quotes all around 12-14k, kit cost 5.5k, fitted the ducting myself, then got a air con man to fit the unit in the roof & do the electrical, cost another 1.8k Hope this helps Matt Re: Ducted aircon after handover? Single story house 4Dec 01, 2010 2:46 pm We're having our ducted system installed next week, post handover. Ours is a single storey with roof sarking as well, and was advised by many that this isn't an issue when it comes to installation. In terms of mess i think it's only the cutting of your ceilings, ours is a new home and the AC system will be installed prior to flooring and painting, so we're not too bothered about dust etc. But anyway our installer promised they will clear up any mess at the end. Also, ours is a 15kW Actron system and we dont need any strenghtening of roof frames. Single phase by the way, good enough for our needs. 12 March 2010 - Land titles received 3 April 2010 - Signed building contract 14 April 2010 - Prestart 28 April 2010 - Loan approved 30 June 2010 - Slab completed 27 August 2010 - Brickwork completed 22 September 2010 - Roofing completed 30 September 2010 - Internal walls plastered 12 October 2010 - Lock Up 19 November 2010 - PCI 26 November 2010 - Handover 29 December 2010 - Moved In https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32584 Re: Ducted aircon after handover? At least I have more options if I do not go through the builder. Re: Ducted aircon after handover? Single story house 6Dec 04, 2010 10:26 am We had our ducted cooling installed this week. 9 monthes after handover. We managed to get a better unit with more ducts for the same price quoted by the builder. Mess? The installers mopped and vacuumed Re: Ducted aircon after handover? Just wanted to check how did your ducted AC installation go after handover. I'm aware that this is an old thread but hoping to get some advice on which way to go. Also, is it a good idea to do downlights after handover as well? Please share your thoughts everyone. Kind Regards, VJ Re: Ducted aircon after handover? Single story house 9Apr 13, 2017 12:23 pm Generally you get considerably lower prices with down lights by doing after handover, and many do air con heating after as saving 10% and getting a better system are both realistic. Are you quite handy already? I'm contemplating doing the same to save a few thousand and learn how it's done for future homes. Does the ducted A/C kit come with sufficient instructions? Single story house 11Jan 30, 2018 1:01 pm Hi all, I'm planning to have a ducted reverse cycle A/c installed in my home (construction to start in June/July). The problem is, the builder provides gas ducted heating as a standard inclusion and is not willing to give me a rebate on that if I don't want that as they say that they are required to have heating included, else they wont get the building permit/certificate. I don't want to have ducted reverse cycle A/c installed via the builder as i'm sure they will add at least a 3k margin cost and I cant be sure about the quality of their work. If I choose to install after handover via a third party then I would have simply wasted money on having gas ducted heating included as part of the standard build only to have it removed later when installing ducted reverse cycle A/c. FYI, I plan to have an all electric home with no gas. Does anybody have a workaround for this issue? Hi, We have a single story MacDonald Jones house, on a waffle pod slab with steel frame.
