Saw a UK home show where they had something similar to what you describe. They had some kind of heat exchanger around the chimney which heated the water in their radiator system which was then pumped to their radiators. I also saw another UK show where they also used the chimney, but it was exposed on the 2nd level, which made it into a form of radiator. The difference to above is they didn't need heat exchangers or a hydronic heating system. Re: ducting heat around the house 3Nov 27, 2010 8:45 pm Hi AJW Thanks for that info. I will have a google and see what I can find. If anyone else has any ideas please post away! Re: ducting heat around the house 5Jan 03, 2011 8:47 pm Not sure whether you are planning open fires or woodheaters. For open fires with a brick chimney just make sure the brickwork is good quality and exposed on the upper floor and the whole chimney wall will act as a radiator. If you are having wood heaters You can box in the metal flue with enough room between the boxing and the flue for air to pass, and put a vent at the bottom and one at the top. and you shouldn't need a fan The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
