Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 24, 2011 8:36 pm Hello to everybody,I'm new here so please be nice. I tried to search about my query but did not find any satisfactory answer so here goes.. I had a new Bonaire evap unit installed September last year. I'm happy with the unit and installation. It does what I expect it to do and that is to cool the house to a comfortable temperature. I paid extra for a programmable controller so that the unit is not continuously dumping water and would just do so at set intervals (the installer said he set it at every 4 hours which is what is recommended for Adelaide water). This afternoon while outside I noticed water trickling down my downpipe coming from the unit, so I thought it's on manual setting in which case the installer said the unit will cycle water all the time. I went in to check the controller, it was on auto, and I just turned the unit on 2 hours ago so it shouldn't be dumping and filling up with fresh water. Then I turned the unit off, my unit has a one-hour delay dumping the water after turning it off, the water was still trickling down the drain hose. I got my friend to go up the roof to turn the water isolation valve off so it's not wasting precious water and I was about to call the installer but realised it was 6pm so they would be closed. My friend tried to turn the water back on, the unit started filling up even though the unit is off so we turned the water back off. Is that normal? What do you good people of h1 think is wrong? I would be calling the company tomorrow but it will be good to know what could be wrong. Thanks for any input. The unit will fill up with water as there is a ball float inside which sets the height of the water in the tank where the pump sits. I know its a bit hard to diagnose this from 3000km away but my advice is: -Turn the water back on, wait for the water to slow down and stop. This will occur when the float is at the top of its travel. Put your finger over the drain pipe end, this will stop the flow of water whilst you are trying to fill the tank if there is water coming out. -Fire the unit back up and see if it runs as normal. If it does, it'll get you through the weekend, worry about the overflow on Monday as its unlikely that you'll get anyone on a Saturday to have a look at the unit. -With tomorrow expected to be 39 and Sunday 42, hope this works. -Run the water from the overflow onto your plants, at least they get a drink Try slowing down the flow by crimping over the end of the hose. Let us know how you go. I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
