Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Nov 03, 2010 9:38 pm Hi everyone! were new to this forum and hope u can help.. Just renovating our first home here in Aus and having terrible noise problems with neighbours & outside sounds (traffic) echoing through the whole house via mainly the colourbond roof & us having high vaulted ceilings. When neighbours are in their yard./pool we hear noise through the whole house it just echos like a megaphone!!! We also have 2 bedrooms adjoining the party fence so its often inconvenient if we have guests or trying to nap between shifts. And coming from being used to double glazing and brick walls in UK, its a bit of a shocker having so much noise and not being able to escape it! Anyway, any advice on best sound insulation options for roof (which is huge by the way so cheapest options plse) were also thinking of maybe putting up some sound insulating board (would blueboard do?) for the side fence neighbouring next door(again advice plse) Oh yes and as we also have new inverter aircon in bedroom also want some insulation to maximise running costs of this, so overall any advise/recommendations on best products would be welcome! Thanks everyone! ps... moving isnt an option, before anyone says it LOL Re: Advice please Noise and Sound insulation for reno home!! 2Nov 08, 2010 10:42 pm try bradford insulation ... What type of construction are your walls? Brick veneer? Weatherboard? Why do you think it's the roof? Your windows will also be a problem. A sound barrier will stop some sound from reaching your home, and blueboard would be OK. Vaulted ceilings make roof insulation difficult - consult a roofing plumber. Your aircon in the bedroom needs the same sort of insulation for that room... maybe double glaze that window or shade it if it's in full sun. Anyway... welcome from someone who moved here from the UK 30 yrs ago. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. Walls are brick mostly, and I know the windows will be an issue, but guess to expensive to get DG on them!! I think the roof is main culprit though because its so high vaulted and echoey.. birds landing on it sounds like they have clogs on ha ha... there is some sort of lightweight foil backed stuff behind the colourbond sheeting, but nothing on the actual joists/rafters so thats why I thoguht maybe some extra insulation may muffle sounds. Our house is on a slight hill with houses behind slightly above us, and the most noisy house next door whose whole entertainign area opens in a u shap facing our south wall (bedrooms/laundry/bath & into main lounge) so the sound just travels through that way. I will also checkout the bradford link thanks... and ta for the nice pommy welcome too Ed!! (3 years here and still green LOL!!) Grom7. Upgrading your windows to soundproof ones, like triple-glazed, can make a significant difference.
