Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Nov 03, 2010 8:38 pm I have a dining, lounge area which is open living. The area measures ~6x10m. It has raked ceilings with a 15 degree pitch. I've been looking at installing two ceiling fans in this area. Does anyone have any brand recommendations and experience with raked ceilings. I've been told you need some special adaptor to take into account the angled ceiling. I've been looking at the hunter pacific typhoon or the fanaway. Also do you recommend going with the ones that have a light or should I leave that out. I am going to have separate lights in the ceiling anyway? Re: ceiling fans with raked ceilings 2Nov 03, 2010 9:04 pm "Airflow" fans from Clipsal are good for up to an 18 degree rake on the ceiling using the "Hangsure" brackets (not the "J Hook" version as you can't get the top cover to go on and sit flush on the ceiling). Other fans with "Hangsure" brackets may have similar range in their rake for your ceiling. The other way is to build out an area from the ceiling that is parallel to the floor to mount the fan onto but this always looks like its been tacked on. For lighting, the handy hint for the day is to: -run the wiring for the light to the fan during the build. -buy fans that have the wiring for the light already fitted (will be a red and black wire with LIGHT on the labels) -Install the fans without the lights fitted, see if the lighting in the room is adequate once you have moved in. -If you decide the lights have to go on the fans, the wiring from the switch will be already at the fan, so when the lights are fitted to the fan the task of wiring in the lights is simpler as the lighting wire was installed during the build. As a recommendation for a good fan/light, I have the Fanaways fitted (actually ten of them), they run 24/7 during the wet, the 40 watt light works a treat. Re: ceiling fans with raked ceilings 3Nov 18, 2010 12:06 pm I wouldn't worry about the ceiling as most new fans come with an adapter that will work with the ceiling. I would just make sure that you take your time with the assembly so it doesn't shake and rattle! _________________________________________ Ceiling Fan Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
