Retailers will generally stock less of product when out of season. This will mean the supply - demand curve remains constant, meaning no major upside/downside in price. There may be a small window when a retailer is trying to clear an obselete model but generally not too much fluctuation in price that i have seen. My experience is that the 'special' event nights that good guys and other retailers host generally provide better discounting than trying to buy out of season - don't know if that works for reverse cycle but my 2c Project History Deposit - 20/4/2010 Land Settled - 20/8/2010 Council - 30/9/2010 Slab - 17/11/2010 Bricks - 28/01/2011 Roof - 5/02/2011 Gyprock - 4/03/2011 Re: Buying Reverse Cycle Air con cheaper in Winter? 4Nov 02, 2010 4:43 am sij Hi All, Am posting to get your thoughts on the concept is it cheaper to get good bargains on reverse cycle air cons in winter? Regards sij Depends what you're looking for and where you are going to get it. If you're looking at purchasing through a volume retailer then I doubt it for the reasons already stated. But if you are going through an AC company then yes, winter can often be cheaper. We get extra incentives from the manufacturers in winter and unlike the summer months we are not so swamped with work that we can set a price and not budge on it. Re: Buying Reverse Cycle Air con cheaper in Winter? 6Nov 09, 2010 8:43 am I'd go with that theory, its the whole demand vs supply theory. I purchased several split units for the home during the winter months recently and at the time, Fujitsu and other manufacturers were running cash back promotions. Getting a good price from the retailer, plus the bonus of cashback, made the deal even sweeter. Its far easier to negotiate deals with air con installers during the cooler months as well. sij Hi All, Am posting to get your thoughts on the concept is it cheaper to get good bargains on reverse cycle air cons in winter? Regards sij Re: Buying Reverse Cycle Air con cheaper in Winter? 7Nov 09, 2010 11:30 am I would agree it is definately cheaper to get it done in Winter - not just for air cond but also most landscaping etc is cheaper in the winter, demand falls away and ppl dont want to think about landscaping etc, but these guys have to keep paying the bills so will often drop their price to get jobs in the quiet months.
