Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 21, 2010 10:10 pm Hi Everyone, we are building a house in Sydney, the builder is providing the External insulation R 1.5 & Ceiling Insulation R 3.5. I would greately appreciate if any of the experts could provide advise if Sarking & Anticon Blankets are needed for underside of the roof. Please some reply urgently. Thanks you Re: Insulation advise - please help 2Oct 22, 2010 10:14 pm Sarking (reflective foil laminate - RFL) will greatly assist keeping out radiant heat in summer. The roof sheeting and tiles get very hot in summer - especially dark coloured roofing. Without RFL the hot roofing material would then radiate heat down onto the top of the bulk insulation decreasing its effectiveness. Reflective foil laminate will stop a lot of this radiant heat. Get it in during construction as it is very hard to fit into an existing roof. Re: Insulation advise - please help 3Oct 24, 2010 11:50 pm I agree with Eccles. RFL for under the roof to keep summer heat out. Batts over the ceiling to keep winter warmth in. Re: Insulation advise - please help 4Oct 25, 2010 7:35 am Thank you guys truly appreciate your advise.
