Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 05, 2010 4:18 pm I have a Brivis p2w15 ducted heating system with 8 ducts from the ceiling, my living area is 18 squares, is it normal on a cold day for it to take up to 2.5 hours to reach 22c? When switched on in the morning my house tempeture is 12c, why does it take so long to heat to 22c, also some of my ducts have little air coming out, while others have more air coming out, can anyone help please? Re: Brivis ducted heating takes about 2.5 hours to heat up. 2Sep 05, 2010 8:34 pm No that's not normal. Sounds like your installation may need to be to be checked. One thought, does it have a boost/economy setting. The boost setting should bring your home fairly quickly to a comfortable temperature.
Re: Brivis ducted heating takes about 2.5 hours to heat up. 3Sep 05, 2010 10:21 pm I am not sure which unit this is: Here is the Brivis brochure But let's assume it is a bottom of the range 13.5kW heater. Total conditioned area = 18 squares = 194 m2 Volumetric heat capacity of air = 1.3 KJ/m3/K Assume 4.6 m (14 foot) ceiling Volume of air to be heated = 888 m3 Temp rise = 10 degrees Heating required = 888 m3 x 10 degree rise x 1.3 KJ/m3/K = 11500 KJ = 11.5 MJ = 3.2 KWhr 13.5 KW heater can produce 13.5 KWh of heating in an hour. It would take just under 5 minutes. This assume no heat losses during this period. Your problem could be any of the following: a) Inadequate insulation of house b) Draughts entering the building c) Draughts entering directly into the return air grille d) Poor sealing of the system - gaps around the return air, a hole in the duct, leaks around the manifold/fan or leaks around the grilles e) Unit is faulty Re: Brivis ducted heating takes about 2.5 hours to heat up. 4Sep 07, 2010 1:41 am Thanks guys ill get Brivis to have a look at. Cheers Re: Brivis ducted heating takes about 2.5 hours to heat up. 5Sep 07, 2010 9:03 am ^Hope you're not in ahurry, melbguy. Did you 'shop' around for a repairer or just called Brivis? Re: Brivis ducted heating takes about 2.5 hours to heat up. 7Sep 09, 2010 9:32 am As the unit is 5 weeks old I called brivis. It wasn't the day of the week that concerned me, BTW. It was the 8 day wait with no heating. As it turns out, after my last post I got on to the installer who suggested I try the guaranteed IT fix of turning it off for 15 minutes & then turning it on again. It worked. Apparently they often just re-set themselves. I will be sending brivis a helpful email about how they can improve customer service & decrease their service costs by giving the people on the end of the phone SOME TRAINING IN THEIR PRODUCTS. Yeah, radical i know. Re: Brivis ducted heating takes about 2.5 hours to heat up. 8Sep 09, 2010 12:24 pm dymonite69 ... Try closing the duct closest to the controller/thermostat to allow the whole room to warm up before it shuts off the heating cycle.
